Spec me a rice cooker

Thanks all for the advice.
In the end i went for..

Mainly because I can get it from Amazon/fuzzy logic and it's tiny.
Unfortunately I couldn't get the one Raymond listed from Amazon, and prefer to use them for any warranty issues.
It arrives tomorrow, so I guess the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.

Same here, even my steamer was twice the price, and if it cooks rice that I'm happy with, It'l be a small price to pay :)

It looks like a good one, white markings for the water is important to see the water line.

Do not lose the cup that it comes with, that is what the 1, 2, 3 is referring to. 1 full cup of uncooked, dried rice from that cup feeds me good and proper. So if you do it with that ratio in mind, 1 cup of rice, then water up to that line for 1.

I normally do it about 80-90% full of the cup and i adjust the waterline accordingly.

would probably go for panda mini ceramic following earlier threads,
but inability of any of them, or new designs, to also cook breakfast porridge oats still puts me off;
have rice at least once a week, but porridge 3 times, if that could automatically be turned on whilst still in bed would be a killer app
Did you read the description or not?

24 Hour Keep Warm/Timer

Unique to Yum Asia’s rice cookers is a 24 hours automatic keep warm - it keeps rice at an ideal serving temperature until it's ready to be served. There is a countdown indicator during the cooking cycle and when the rice is cooked a beep sounds and the cooker automatically shifts to keep warm mode. For added convenience, there is a preset time function which can be set up to 24 hours in advance, so you can have delicious rice ready for when you come in from work or nice, steaming hot porridge waiting on a cold winter's morning.

Time to have a play..

With these machines is there a setting to tell you how much water is needed with a weight of rice (pre cooked obviously). In the reviews I just keep seeing cups rather than weight

if you weigh a cup of your usual rice and note that down- you can just then use weight for setting the machine up subsequently,
I usually do measure out rice by volume 3-4floz per person. but weigh almost everything else.

once you have mastered rice, If you like porridge can you do a test ?

Jon hasn’t posted in a while now. The Panda fuzzy logic has got the better of him I think :D
Yes.
I overdosed on rice and had to have to a lay down (still, the chickens won’t go hungry for a while).
Had some good results, but I found that letting it run its course makes the rice a little sticky for my liking.
The only rice I’ve got is some cheap Lidl Basmati, so I’ll grab some better quality stuffs today and give that a go (any suggestions welcome).
That said, it makes rice a bazillion times better than I ever could, and as a plus it has a wee steamer tray to do broccoli or whatnot at the same time :D

No good if you want it with milk though.

Or chicken etc. Pretty good for a lazy quick one pot weeknight meal.

I don't have the bag anymore, will try and get a photo of it next time.

You can do a easy (cheat version) of chicken rice if you cook the rice with some chicken stock instead of plain water. You might need to experiment with how concentrated you need. I put in some chicken bouillon in it, start with half a teaspoon or so the 1st time and see how that tastes. Mix in with either some fresh chopped garlic or garlic powder. You can steam your chicken thigh or something on the rack above it.
