Spec me a torch

Smooth gives a marginally longer throw of light but if you point it at a wall you get lots of concentric rings.
Orange peel texture gives a slightly shorter throw, but if pointed at a wall will give a much more consistant circle of light.

Fenix, I'm looking for one with strobe that can light up the majority of my garden , its about 40' x 40' mainly for security or looking for stuff in the shed,

thanks

Best bet is probably the L2D Q5, which is more than poweful enough to light your garden. Runs on two AA batteries and has the strobe mode.

The L1D would also be up to the job, it's smaller and cheaper than the L2D and uses just one AA.

What would be the best torch to use for walking in the woods at night and to take camping/trekking? Would need to be portable and bright. Also where is the best place to get the batteries for the brighter torches you sell?

Thanks.

The L2T is awesome, and the light is so much better than any other torch I've ever seen. Use it at work almost daily, running on Energiser 2500mA NiMH AA cells.

I am glad I found this thread and got myself one of these.

The only extra which isn't listed on the FENIXTORCH website, is a headband like the maglite torches have, which allows you to use the L2T handsfree. Perfect when working on a repair in the dark.

Get an L2T with the diffuser accessory.
The torch is ideal for walking in the woods and the diffuser is perfect for camping.
Batteries are common AA batteries, available everywhere, but I would recommend if you use the torch a lot, get some NiMH rechargeables and although expensive, an ansmann charger to get the most life out of rechargeable batteries, whilst 15min chargers are great in a hurry, they do halve the life of a battery or worse, which is why I recommend the ansmann, quick yet safe and reliable charging.
Get 2500mA batteries or greater.

FenixTorch, Found my L2D awesome. My housemates also found out how bright it is on strobe mode too. :p Used it a lot already working on my car in the dark.

Anyone know where I can get a headband for it? Will come in real handy when working on my car at night, a reaccuring theme it seems.

www.vapextech.co.uk - Cheap place to get some good cells. 4x 2900mAh for £5.50 delivered, can't complain at that.

A month or so ago i bought 2 cheap 1xAA torches from an online store in HK.
Romisen RC-G2 (cree XR-E) $10.90 delivered
MTE SSC P4 $14.50 delivered

Both are very nice torches, probably not quite as bright as a Fenix, but much cheaper. Candlepowerforum is a great place to read up about torches.

The T1Q5 is currently rated at 225 Lumens, so would guess that is the highest rated. My P3DQ5 has performed brilliantly so far, a country mile in front of the Maglites it replaced.

Wow just had a read through this thread, missed it before. Most of the engineers I work with at night use a 3 cell Maglite with a LED conversion kit because that way the beam is adjustable for varying heights looking from a few feet upto 35 or so foot.

Some of those torches really do look good but not being able to adjust the beam is a bit of a downer for me. Plus the battery life. Mine os on more or less contant for 4 hours and those wouldn't cut it on high settings. Where as the 3 cell maglite with conversion has lasted me from from Novemeber til last night on the same 3 batteries with about 8-10 hours usage per week.

I think If I was walking or camping I'd prefer the maglite option purely so I Know I did not have to carry batteries and it was going to last longer than a couple of hours.

Definately going to pick one of those up though to try out.

Hi Marc, Thanks for your order - all being well you should have it tomorrow.

I had forgotten how old this thread is! We dont even sell the Rebel LED versions any more as they have all been upgraded to the Cree Q5.

The offer of a free red filter or diffuser attachment for all OcUk members still stands. Just drop me an email after placing your order with a note of your member name and which item you prefer.

Cheers
Antony
