Spec me an LED Torch

Its just amazing how these small torches can out perform a normal or the large torch and by a huge margin too

A family member bought a led torch a few years ago, it was a 10-20 led torch and it was useless. I guess the normal leds for torches would be much weaker then the normal bulb torch, but I never knew you could get any different led's.

When I came across this thread a few years, I didn't believe that these small torches could out perform a normal sized torch, and whats more a led, NO WAY. I never went any further into it until now, and I still cant believe it, even after watching and reading reviews. But hopefully my C8 will come sometime next week and I will have to believe it, thats if the C8 is as good as the reviews Ive seen on the net

You should see the ones Asda sell, huge multi-LED (like, a few dozen diodes) torches with a pitiful light output, the camera LED on my phone is more effective and my tiny Fenix P1D torch obliterates both of them.

Those type give led a bad name. OCUK sold me a non cree led torch/screwdriver, actually its awesome for the size and on a new battery enough to light up a dark corridor

You mean a laser pointer? I'd just get whatever is fairly cheap on Amazon

Ok thanks, I just wanted to check theres not some inspector gadget type with auxiliary cool stuff on there

Like I have heard of quad colour LED torches :D

Just to let you know, I received my Ultrafire C8 torch and I am really impressed with it as its like a search light. But it might be fake as it doesn't have the name and model around the CREE LED and no memory mode, but it has glass covering the reflector ,

But I might buy this to give it memory mode. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251283820037?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

changing the tail cap won't give it mode memory if yours doesn't have it, it is the driver that you would want to change.

ie you want one of these, http://www.fasttech.com/products/16...7135-2-group-25-modes-led-flashlight-driver-n

as for the reflector dust, a soft brush and air blower like you get for photographic lenses, the reflective coatings tend to be very delicate so best not to touch as you may end up trashing it.

Just picked up my first Cree LED Torch from................................local supermarket :o

Don't really know much about torches but this thing seems very bright.

Specs,

10w CREE XLamp XM-L, 490 Lumens, 230 Light distance, IP65 Rated Protection, Electronic control, Continuous zoom, 3 year warranty.

£18, probably a it bit over priced but needed a torch asap for some night time beach walks with GF.

Feels very solid and weighty, the only thing is it uses C/LR14 cells which is a bit of a pain.

Thanks, I doint think I will do either of those things as I will prob bugger it, but thank you for letting me know.:)

Well guys, couldn't live with the dust on the reflector so I got the dust off with a microfibre cloth. No dust now but tiny microscratches, I cant win. Im not too bothered tho, aslong as it doesn't affect the beam in anyway.

Edit: I've just tried the torch outside tonight and the scratches doesn't seem to have effected the beam at all. Its still stupidly bright and you can see the beam when you shine it on up into the sky, like you can with original torches on foggy nights:cool:

Can anyone suggest a very small torch that can be carried on a keyring with my keys for emergencies?

LED Lenser LED8252
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007X5SIKE

same as their K1 which is 50p more

uses the little hearing aid batteries (@Poundland) and is brighter than expected.

in fact get some cheap batteries when you first get it instead of the supplied ones, because you'll end up using it all the time and it will only last a month.

Cheers.

I can understand companies that need to limit suppliers,
but why only two and why pay through the nose for something that is pants?

That's £10 worth of torch, most of which is it's scrap value.

The only one I recognise is this
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/torches/7157721/ (£30!!!)

it's actually a Lenser P5, available elsewhere for £17.

ah, found some other Lensers
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/torches/7157743/
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/torches/7157728/
etc.

unless you are getting 50% discount then you are being dry bum raped by RS

We have other suppliers, but those are the only 2 that sell torches. Our hands are tied, I need a torch that would be half decent with a rechargeable battery. Having a quick look through what RS and buck & hickman sell I thought that was the best of a bad bunch (despite how overpriced it is).
I must confess to not being knowledgeable about torches though, although that's probably obvious by me choosing it, lol.
