Spec me an LED Torch

all in one deal for that price is definitely bargain basement territory, interested to hear if its any use. Still got the 3xAAA original one from the start of this thread though its all unglued inside so the light wobbles

I didn't like 4 mode so kept it in 7 mode but turned on memory. Mine is warmer than I expected too as the pic earlier shows, but having used it over the weekend, I can't say I noticed the warmth in the dark and dank recesses of buildings and things.

So for the price, bit of a bargain I suppose. Used it o and off throughout the day and got home with 75% power according to the battery level check mode.

Hey everyone

I'm after some suggestions on a new EDC torch for myself. I purchased a ThruNite Ti for myself about a month ago from Amazon. The first torch I had was sent back due to an issue, and now the same issue has happened again. Basically the mechanism to turn the torch on and off is rather silly, and keeps going wrong. You have to turn the head until it contacts the battery, and you switch between the four modes by screwing it and unscrewing it. This, unfortunately, is what causes the issue. I was going to return the torch but found a suggestion on torch forum that said that if you clean the inside, it stops the short which is caused by filings from screwing and unscrewing the torch. Unfortunately, you do this and then get a few more goes with it but then it just goes wrong again. It's a rather terrible design.

What I do like about the torch is how small it is. It uses a AAA battery, has a decent output, although it is a tad too floody and not throwy enough for my liking. So, I'm looking for a replacement. I paid £20 for the ThruNite so I'm looking at around the same for a replacement. The ThruNite claims to have a 160 lumen output at the top end so I'm looking at that as a maximum.

My main torch for heavy use is a Nitecore EA4. I love this torch for what it can do. It has an amazing beam, and the modes on it are very useful. Unfortunately I can't really see any Nitecore torches that are around the £20 - £25 mark that have an output of more than 100 lumens.

I've seen a Fenix E12 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fenix-E12-T...?ie=UTF8&qid=1449567514&sr=8-3&keywords=fenix) that might be an option, but thought I'd ask for suggestions in here because you all have such a wide range of torches so there must be something that fits my price range :)

Any one got a Sunwayman V11R on here ? Im tempted to get one as my next EDC , currenty using a EagTac D25C Ti'2014 at the moment , i like the idea that you can use AA batteries with the optional extender.

I've had a V-Shark VS-X2 XM-L (up to 1600 lm) for a few years. I'm wondering if something like the BLF A6 is a suitable replacement for it?

The BLF A6 is also 1600 lm, but only has one battery which means it will fit more comfortably in my pocket.

Well my Quark 123 2 has gone missing so I have just ordered a Fenix PD35. Nitecore battery and charger arrived today, hopefully the torch will show up this week.

In terms of the torch, it's excellent. I love the ability to cycle through all modes at the touch of a button, something the Foursevens Quark couldn't do. The brightness is insane for such a small torch!

I bought a Fenix e12 and think its a brilliant little thing - so much oomph from one AA battery, my question is what would be considered its bigger brother?

I really like the look of the PD35 but i think i would prefer something that takes a couple of AA or AAA batteries as i always have them to hand and not be reliant on remembering to charge up the torch in advance. Do any decent torches fit the bill or are basic batteries not the 'done thing' for this class of torch?

The PD35 can also take 2 CR123s which I typically have a few of.

Would you want another Fenix, or are you open to suggestions? For me, I love the Nitecore EA4. It takes 4 AA batteries, and is a very substantial torch for the money. The beam is an absolute beast!

Hmm, that Nitecore EA4 does tick quite a number of boxes thanks - certainly one to look into over the next day or so.

CR123s are indeed an option but not something that i typically have around usually. But thanks for your reply SpeedFreak - i would ideally love a 'matching' big brother to the e12 but sadly I cant help but think that the PD35 in its current guise isnt quite for me much as i would love it to be so.

I'm an average guy with no compelling use for torches of this quality - i just like a gadget, and as such i sadly can't justify having chargers or special batteries lying around the place just for occasional use.

Okay, so I got my A6 working today, after much battles with eBay over an undelivered charger! Really struggling to get to grips with the instructions though. All I want is for it to come on in turbo mode every time I use it.

Maybe I'm just stupid :p

If you enable memory mode (see my earlier post) then if you turn it off in turbo it'll come on in turbo.

You'll be stuck with the step down to high after 45 seconds though.

My BLF A6 arrived today.. Doesn't work :( I'm hoping its because my two batteries are lo on charge, despita working in my WF51B torch.. they're charging in a Nitecore charger at the moment.

Had my Olight S30 Baton turn up yesterday from BG and like this one much more than myBLF A6 which will be getting off loaded asap.

Looks bigger in this picture but it's actually smaller and feels much more compact.
