Also a noob looking for two recomendations.

I have a shining beam s-mini which is great, but I'd like something to go along side it that is brighter and has a wider and longer beam if possible (I guess those two might be opposites

). Any recommendations to look at, don't really have a budget in mind, happy to save for something that suits.

I'm also looking for a small, but bright AA torch to keep in my bag as a backup/emergency torch. I have a cheap chinese thing, but it's not really reliable so is no good.

I've got a Solarforce LC-XML Drop in module (5 modes), however in the last week or so it's stopped changing modes. I can still turn it on & off fine, but clicking the torch on & off quickly is meant to switch between the modes, but it no longer does.

Does anyone have any experience with similar behaviour & know how to fix it?

Just taken delivery of this lovely piece of kit, most I've ever spent on a torch but fancied a rechargeable torch and no messing around with batteries.

What do people think a about using 18650 cells from laptop batteries?

I have been using 8 in rotation on my Sky Ray King for about a year now. They do always tend to be highly regarded brands and seem to have a high capacity.

Its turned out to be much cheaper for my purposes.

I still have some Sanyo batteries I took from a laptop battery, must be near 10years old now still going strong, in fact I don't think I've ever bought a brand new 18650 battery.

Had a bit of a splurge these past few days and have the following coming:

£119 for the X7, £46 for the G20 and £50 for the XT12GT. Found some deals on them so made a nice saving.

Hey guys i currently use a fenix hl55 head torch for a certain job at work. I seem to be going through a lot of batteries so im looking at rechargable one.

The head torch can take either 2 cr123a/rcr123 or 1 18650. what am i better of with? the one larger battery of the 2 cr123a's?

wow they do Quad core for LED chips now, no wonder its 9000 lumens and then x3 of those for 12 combined beams would do the job I guess.

Spotted another Olight torch, Intimidator with 3200 lumens. I thought that was a decent price for torch, batteries, charger and incar but I was looking at the wrong package I think. The cheaper one which goes into a sale 9am doesnt have the batteries so not quite the bargain if the above price for the X7 is correct. Just mentioning it anyway in case it gets a good price

In about three weeks I'm going to be away on an island where there is no lighting at all after sunset. I'll be staying in a cabin about a mile away from the main populated area and will be walking there and back each evening. I did this last year with a bicycle lamp and although it worked, it wasn't really satisfactory.

Any suggestions for something pocket sized that will give me decent illumination for this please? Ideally I'd like to use it for five evenings walk there and back again without having to faff about with any chargers.

Happy with it? Decent light coverage? Strangely enough, that's one I was looking at as the charging method suits. All I'd need to take with me is the small charging base.
