Spec me an LED Torch

So I've pulled the trigger on the GOLISI S43 IMR26650 4300mAh 35A battery and Astrolux® EA01S 4*XHP50.2 6500K to use together. Managed to get 25% off the torch and put a separate order through for the battery to use up my points.

Looking forward to seeing what this torch can do, but it's looking like the battery will arrive after the torch. But I can use my 21700 battery for now - it's just annoying that I can't find the other battery, as I bought a pair.

Looks like a decent battery, where did you get it? Banggood?

I've got the same torch and it behaves oddly. It ramps down brightness from any reasonably high setting quickly without it being hot.

Yes, the battery is coming from Banggood. I'd read several reviews before buying it, so I've got my fingers crossed.

I think you can change the temperature which the torch starts to ramp down.

I've got an OLIGHT PL-1 II Valkyrie and fancy something a little brighter but ideally a similar sort of size because it fits in my pocket nicely.

Any suggestions for something that might meet my requirements? Apart from being used from time to time around the house, the 'main' use is when I'm away on an island with no artificial light, finding my way up a dark track back to the cabin from the pub.

I bought the one I linked above back in September 2017 from a recommendation in this thread.

Ideally anything would be available from a UK supplier without having to faff about buying a battery separately. The Valkyrie came with a magnetic charger and that's been ideal.

This is a slow thread mostly, there is an entire forum on LED but I dont go there often.
Olight is a special brand, I have their USB charger and thats it. I couldnt recommend anything similar exactly, I have Fenix TK22 which is very old now but has always been a quality product so check their latest designs out if nobody suggests otherwise.
I'm not interested in multi LED or multi battery, I just want them to keep improving the efficiency and output ideally
Last torch I got which is super bright, like a mobile car headlight is Astrolux FT03 but its massive and nothing like would fit in a pocket design

I need a good 26650 battery like that, I just have cheap ones I leave on slow charge for reserve and a good 21700 Molicel INR P42A and says 4200mah 30A on it; has been ok but I think its designed for vape use primarily. If your battery lasts a good amount of time under power let us know I want to have at least 1 solid 26650 since I got 2 torches that will use it; always think we should have more photos and stuff :p

I've received my torch and very happy with it so far. I'm using a 21700 battery in it just now, I'm just waiting for the 26650 to turn up.

The 26650 is a bit of a sore topic for me right now. Funnily enough the tracking has updated today, but I've been waiting since 12/08 for the status to change.

Contacting Hermes is virtually impossible - their phone systems are basically just a machine that gives you the same information online and gives you no options to speak with an advisor. Live chat is just as bad as that's basically a bot too.

My 26650 battery arrived, so after fully charging it I tested it quickly. It definitely seems to make the torch brighter, probably due to the higher 40a burst discharge rate. The torch gets so hot, you can see it stepping down sooner than it did with my 21700 battery.

I'd have been happier with a bigger head to act as a heatsink, so the torch could sustain longer bursts at maximum brightness. But this thing really kicks the EC03 to one side and shows it up.

It was me that recommended that torch to you. I wonder why it's now called a Valkyrie rather than the S1R Baton.

There's the Baton 3 now, which has 300 more lumens than yours (and a healthy price tag) but apart from that I can't think of a torch that will meet your requirements.

You might have to step up in size.

My main torch for night walks with the hounds now is the Lumintop GT Micro, which is a very compact thrower for £30, but you need to get a seperate battery for it and a means of charging it.

Check out the Fenix E35 V3.0 which uses a 21700 cell.
Looks decent, thanks.

Thanks. According to the spec on Amazon, the Baton 3 is bigger than the Fenix, although the picture looks similar in proportion to the one I have. I think I'll grab the Fenix from Amazon and if it's no good, I can always return it.

but you need to get a seperate battery for it and a means of charging it.
Not what I want to have to do :)

Yeah the E35 looks alright, I do like Fenix torches. Olight always seem expensive to me, good torches though.

Since I got the GT Micro I haven't been keeping as up to date on new torch releases - it broke my torch addiction :p

Took a punt on a Sealey torch: https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637190880/10w-t6-cree-led-aluminium-torch-with-adjustable-focus

Advertised as "10W T6 CREE LED Aluminium Torch with Adjustable Focus"

Less than £8 delivered and then £9 for 6x D cells

Never seen an aspherical lens before and it is quite disturbing to max the zoom and see it resolve into a crisp projected image of the LED like a kids toy projecting pictures. On the other hand at default it puts out a big flood of even light without hot spots or rings which I'd also never seen a torch do before.

Sealey doesn't exactly lie, there is a 10W LED in there but it's not being run at 10W, it's being run around 5W and 1.5W which is how I guess the 680/200 lumen spec comes about since 10W should be 1000.

Bright enough for me in either high or low mode. Bit chunky at 520g with 2x D cells in, 21cm x 4cm (body) / 5cm (head).

For amusement also took a punt on a large spotlight that Sealey does: https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637190876/30w-cree-led-rechargeable-spotlight

Note wording: "30W CREE LED Rechargeable Spotlight"

About £32.

So it's turned up and it's massively bulky, not a skinny fit battery hugging aluminium torch but an oversize plastic shell with a 19cm! reflector + glass lens.

Runtime meant to be 2h on high, 6h on low. Battery is 7.4V and 32.5Wh which matches with the 4.4Ah they say which again means Sealey is stating the maximum 30W of the LED but running it much lower since you'd need over 60Wh to run a 30W LED for 2h.

In fact it's so consistent with how the previous torch was done I had a check and I reckon Sealey is running all their lights at Cree's reference setting which is half the lumens of the maximum 200% that you might see on a high end enthusiast torch setup.

They put the correct lumens for what they've actually done in the specs (2000 lumens at 100%) but they're using the maximum 200% wattage in the product name.

It doesn't really matter since you're getting all the lumens you were promised at half the watts claimed which is a good thing and therefore not a scam. It's just weird they'd mention it.
