Spec me an LED Torch

Any recomendations for a torch that's usable as a headtorch? Mainly going to be used for DIY tasks (think head in the loft/in a wall/behind a cupboard etc), and maybe if out walking in the dark.
Rechargable via USB-C would be a nice bonus, but if the battery needs to be removed ot charge, that's not too much of an issue as I have a Li-Ion charger already.
I've got a couple decent handhelds, so doesn't need to replace those.
Not looking to spend much, maybe ~£20-£30.

The original Perun Mini from Olight can often be found on sale for around that price.
It's a thumb-sized right-angle torch with sever settings from 2-1000 lumens, rechargable with included proprietary USB cable, has a headband or can clip to a pocket and has a magnetic base.
I find it great for shining into confined spaces like behind cupboards, down the back of engines, etc.
They have the newer version Perun 2 Mini, but that's usually around £45-60.

There's also the very similar Fenix HM50R v.2, which doesn't have quite the same UI or a magnetic base, but is superior to the Perun in pretty much every other way, including the headband and attachment method.
It doesn't rely on proprietary charging cables or cells, so you can charge spare batteries externally while using the torch, and it also has red-light capabilities.

This form-factor in general is probably the best all-rounder in terms of features and usability, but I can recommend either of these based on years of owning both myself... and while I prefer the Fenix overall, I still carry the Olight one every day because of the magnetic base and slightly more intuitive UI.

If you need something that is smaller still but can kick out a lot of light with changeable spot and flood then the Olight OClip Pro might fit the bill.

Picked up one recently and it had been my go to to put in the pocket for the past few weeks.

Slightly over your budget by £1.99 though

One of these for me...

I had the older Seeker 3 Pro , but the Seeker 4 Pro looses the proximity sensor which is a deal breaker for me. But still a cracking torch for the money especially with the holster USB C charging function.

Thanks all, I'll take a look through them all & see what I think!

So currently got a Fenix P3D that has served me well over the years, however it does get through batteries regularly. Is there something of equivalent size that would give me the same/batter light/beam quality but avoid the need for lot's of battery orders from Amazon?

I bought a great LED torch and, as you do, got a thrill when initially testing it out into the garden. However, I've since found that I generally only ever use it in its lower setting (50 lumens) as anything brighter when indoors kills my vision and out and about its too annoying for others using such a bright beam.

Can anyone recommend a 4 slot charger thats simple to use and will detect bad batteries etc. I have an old Nitecore at the moment and its not very intuitive to use. Maybe something with an LCD display?

What cells are you wanting to charge?
There are other nitecore chargers (e.g. UMS4) that have displays and can deal with more chemistries etc.. however, whilst if you have normal 3.7v Li-ION cells they all seem 'automatic', if you have 3.8v Li-ION/3.2v LiFePO whilst it can handle them, you have to manually mess with the charge mode.. in the LiFePo case, it's actually dangerous if you leave it in auto mode, this is a common 'flaw' in most chargers designs.

The other brand I was considering was XTar, they have a nice range, plenty of people use them and most pricepoints/features are covered..

But I'd also be interested to see if people have found better, I still would live a truly automatic charger than can autodetect LiFePo cells so I know the Mrs/Kids can use them without burning the house down as sadly I have a mix of cells in various kit.

I got my son a Shadowhawk like that. It's incredible. I took it to the local fireworks event last November, put everyone else's torch to shame. It was like I brought a lighthouse to the event!

What a thread. Decided a couple of torches would do my grown-up stepsons as something a bit different for Christmas. Wasn't expecting a 300 page diatribe on everything torches to completely confuse me.

Just bought 3 of these shawdowhawk torches on Ebay.

I know the brightest stated isn't for real and I'm sure the quality isn't anywhere near as good as the various tried and tested suggestions on here, but as christmas presents I like that it comes in a presentation box and includes a keyring torch. Only needed 2 but decided to treat myself to one !. After cashback and a few other things, I'm getting them for about £21 each, which for a USB-C rechargeable good light torch, can't go too far wrong.

It's stealth-geekery.
I bought my dad-in-law one for Christmas once. Just a little Fenix affair, very simple. He now owns about ten different ones and has become a total geek.
Same thing with the little Olight i1Rs I keep getting for free - Give them away and the recipients start geeking out.

My super powerful torch was darn useful when we lost power a few days ago. It heats up a fair bit, haven’t used it for quite so long before. Love the brightness.

Depends on the design but usually they have several brightness settings and you have to find the one where it can happily run non stop while staying fairly cool.

It tends to be about half or less of the highest brightness setting in my experience.
