Spec me some lager/ale

Nah pale and golden ales are great - they're closer to lagers than bitter. If you like the badger, there are loads of similar ales that don't stray into the 'darker' side of beers. Make sure you drink them when they're somewhere between fridge and room temperature (I reckon about 10'C is nice - some prefer it fridge temp, others closer to room temp)

I went from lager to pale ales, then milds, then bitter, then stouts and porters. It's been about a 2 year journey from lagers so far, and I'm still discovering new drinks in pubs and shops. :D

Mate, go spend a few days in Bruges... it's very cheap and great for beer. Places like Beertje and Cambrinus have such a massive selection it's mind boggling.

I loved:

Grimburgen (8.5%),
Kasteel (something crazy like 11%)
Zot Blonde (6%)

and many others. I brought back about 8 souvenir "drinkign vessels" - I love the way each beer comes with it's own glass :D

Bonus is that you will wake up without a horrible hangover.

Sounds good to me. :)

Well Cambrinus had over 300 beers on the "menu" if I remember correctly. I can send some photos etc if you're interested in the place. Just climb the Belfry *before* you get drunk....

One of the Christmas Beers I had was 10.5% and there were some on offer at about 13% (trappist beers)

Is rolling rock a pale ale?

Not in the way that pale ales are meant, it is cheap American lager flavoured water. It's probably marginally better than Budweiser, Miller or Coors but that is about as far as I'm prepared to go as a recommendation.

Sam Adams isn't too bad at all, Canada had a couple of decent beers that I tried but mainly from smaller local breweries (not Molson or the like) and I've never seen any over here.

Ok so I got carried away, and yes that is samuel adams in there, however in my defence it reminds me of my holiday earlier this year so I though why not.

Also the big bottle is king Cobra, mmmm.
