SPECTRE Bond24 discussion [Please use spoiler tags when discussing the plot]

Not sure what I think of it at the moment. Of the Craig's, it's better than Quantum, as good as Skyfall but still not as good as Casino Royale.

Got back an hour ago. I certainly liked it, but not as much as Skyfall. Skyfall just had it all and delivered constantly from start to finish. Spectre wanted to be the best but outside of the action sequences, which were some of the best I've ever seen on screen, it actually came across as a little limp.

Semi-spoiler:
For example Christoph Waltz was there, I love the guy, but he just didn't seem to have the impact the movie desperately needed. They made his character too simple. I thought he'd be more Moriarty-esque, but instead he came across as another murderous psychopath; he needed more substance. His deeds were referenced in dialogue, I just needed to see it more because it kinda diminished the ending.
Still very good Bond, worthy of the Daniel Craig collection, the action sequences alone make it worth a watch.

I've not watched it yet going to watch it at the weekend, some people saying not as good as Skyfall? I found Skyfall to be worse than the previous two myself.

Will judge this once I've seen it.

I can't bring myself to write it out again so I'll quote myself from the "what did you watch" thread..

Spectre.

*sigh*. I was ready to love this film like I loved the 3 previous Craig films. But its like Sam Mendes found a dusty book of Bond cliches down the sofa and dusted it off.

The more I think about it the more bits bother me, from plot holes to continuity issues, to bad one liners and obvious what comes next bits. The action scenes tried too hard and seemed drawn out (especially the car chase that was about 3x too long), to just down right daft.

6.5/10

:(

maybe a bit melodramatic. will watch again when it comes out on Blu Ray.

My two word review!

Pretty good!

My expanded, spoiler including mini-review:

This was by far the most consistent of the DC bonds in my book - it didn't seem to suffer any pacing issues at all unlike Skyfall and Casino Royale. I probably like it the best too. Great locations, good use of the other 00 team members, particularly M. It also continued the trend of cheekily referencing the old bond films, which I really like. I thought Christopher Waltz was fantastic too - he really is the ultimate bad guy actor.

I do kind of agree with what was said above. It was a shame that most large scale villainy was off screen and we were just told it was going on. It did feel a bit cheap to simply be told that Blowfeld was behind all of the previous events - how can we buy that?? He's definitely coming back though - that leg injury means he's ripe for a wheelchair!!!

Also, as a huge outspoken fan of horror films, I could barely watch the torture scene, I was creased up in my seat!

All in all, a big solid 4/5, which is probably the highest I could expect to give it.

5/5 if you're iron warrior though, because of the intro.

I'm not entirely sure about this film. I watched it last night but it didn't jump out at me like the previous bond films. I left quite disappointed. I may have to watch it again but it won't be at the cinema.

I'm not going to read people's reviews here in case it gives me pre-conceived ideas of it being either brilliant or average, I'll just go with an open mind. Booked 3 tickets for Thursday at 8pm with me, my nephew and a friend. Nephew has an unlimited card and I have a £20 gift card. Looking forward to it! Would you believe I've had casino royale and quantum here on bluray for a long time and STILL haven't seen them? :p

Okay, have slept on it now and can reflect on it more.

First, I don't really remember Skyfall that much…not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing. It didn't make much of an impression on me, I don't remember the bond girl, I only remember the villain, the house in Scotland and some power station on some island. The rest is a blank.

As for Spectre,

First the bad

How many times can the people in this universe walk out of an exploding ball of fire and collapsing building and its rubbles. It is beyond ridiculous. How on earth did Christopher Waltz walk out of that fireball explosion after being hit by what was essentially getting blown up by a grenade at his feet is beyond comprehension and had nothing more than 1 injury from it all. I know it's a movie but at least make it a little bit more believable.

Talking about Waltz, his entrance was good but after that he played it almost like a comedy villain, not scary at all.

A couple of cheesy lines, would not have looked out of place in Austin Powers:-

After the fight on the train

Dr Swan "What do we do now?"
/mild sex scene.

I actually laughed.

The good.

I thought the action sequences are all very well done, all very realistic with a sense of mavity and weight to them. The punches felt real, the car chases felt more down to earth than Fast and Furious ever did, the helicopter sequences was very well done, you can literally feel the G-force they were feeling.

Pacing was excellent, I didn't look at my watch at all throughout which was amazing. The acting was solid too, Dr Swan practically stole every scene she was in.

Overall, a good movie, but time will see if it's any more memorable than Skyfall.

I'd watch at least Casino Royale and Skyfall prior to watching it as pretty much everything you need to know is covered in those two films

I also found that Sam Smith's song was better with the fantastic opening title sequence, on the big screen with great sound. The first time I heard it was on the radio which is a bit sucky for such a grand song.

Sam smith song is turd whatever the environment .

well when to cinemas last night to see, but it was completely booked out, so I when to see this morning. I though it was very good. it would be wise for anyone who hasn't seen the any of the Daniel craig Bond movies, to see casino Royale and skyfall first as they laid the bulk of ground work for this movie. quantum of solace does do little abit for it but not enough, so you can get by with only just watching the Casino Royale, Skyfall and understand what going on in spectre. at a push you can get away with just watching skyfall but there will be parts in the movie will not full understand unless you seen casino royale.

give the movie 4 of 5

the ending reminds me of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" so it does leave three options for craig 1) to do his last contracted movie 2) bow out on spectre, so new james bond 3) do last contracted bond movie and sign new contract for few more.

As a Bond film I thought it was poor and totally forgettable. It was mildly entertaining but contained no elements that would make me want to watch it again.

Christoph Waltz was way underutilised, and I thought Dave Bautista stole the show which is saying something. Daniel Craig spent most of the film milling around various hotel rooms.

There was some ropey CGI in it too - better they just leave it out than make it look like a computer game cut scene.

Forget about Sam Smith, they had the other 99% of the film to make it great and they failed.

Don't believe the hype (2) / 5
