SPECTRE Bond24 discussion [Please use spoiler tags when discussing the plot]

Was rather so so for me

Wasn't too invested in the plot and the lack of screen time for Waltz was a shame. As others have said a lot of padding with the action scenes and no real depth.

The plot and direction isn't his fault. He proved that he's a great Bond in Casino Royale, but he can only have so much influence.

I think much the same of Brosnan, so far as the charm school quipping Bonds go... He's easily the best of that crowd, but he only got 1 1/2 decent films.

I may be going against most opinions in here but I really enjoyed it :p
It had everything I would want & expect from a Bond film plus all the references to past plots, characters and props, loved it :)

Likewise, a good action flick, I enjoyed it.

I was debating going to see this or coming straight home to watch the GP. I chose the GP. And it wasn't that exciting. Not sure I made the right choice, I'll tell you next Sunday!

What they're missing is real nail-biting scenes like when Sean Connery was tied down in Goldfinger and a laser was about to slice him in two, or when he had to defuse a bomb. I don't remember anything like that with Daniel Craig.

The chair scene in CR was buttock clenching :D and certainly had tension ... the torture scene in this was pretty tense too, and certainly makes you wince.

This was my ten year olds first 'cinema' Bond, and he loved it too... he's seen most of them on BD and said it was in his top three, with Goldfinger his fav. He had problems watching the 'eyes' scene though [so did I for that matter]

Casino Royale?

Bond needs good progression in its storytelling to work well, otherwise its just a mess.
Thats why CR, Goldeneye, Goldfinger, Living Daylighs, Tomorrow never dies, Dr No work so well. Bond has an objective and takes a clear route from A>B, with a few surprises along the way whilst he is out gaining info, or tracking them down. Its a slow understanding of the plot that both Bond and the viewer share together.

In the recent films it always seems like the bad guys are after bond before he has even put two and two together, which is not really very spy like.

I like Craig, but he is getting weak ass scripts and will end up like Brosnan if hes not careful.

The torture scene in CR was good cringeworthy indeed.

I found the one in this more so though.. the drills.. man, so bad.

Saw it last night. Such a disappointment.

I can't help but feel that the team behind Skyfall went in saying, "we'll never make another Skyfall but we can make another QoS!", because it feels like the plot was slightly made up as the film went on.

I feel that Craig should do one more film which is actually good. If it ends on this, DC's Bond will forever be, not as good as Casino Royale :(

I saw this the other day. Almost ruined by some numpty couple talking loudly in Spanish through the first scene. The guy had the cheek to 'wave me away' when I politely told him that if he was going to talk all the way through then he should move somewhere else. Although he didn't talk he proceeded to check his phone every 10mins and fidget around and scratch himself like he was on coke or something. Sigh.

Besides that I thought it was decent, but I didn't really feel that 'involved'. Perhaps because of my neighbour, but I do feel it was lacking something.

Oh and what the heck happened to..
.. Monica Bellucci's character? Did she die? I found it odd she was completely forgotten about? Nothing was said or explained?

I watched Casino Royal again last night and I personally think its on the better DC films. Action from beginning to end like the previous Bonds have been, edge of seat moments and the like...felt like a true Bond film!

Saw this Sunday night and I'm quite mixed about it.
I'd give it a 5-6/10.

The action scenes are great but the story has very little pop!
The table scene is the best scene and then it just goes downhill very quickly.

By "one of the better" I can only assume you mean "the best".

Because it clearly is. There really isn't any room for debate on that point.

Bond tells her he will get Felix Leiter in to help her get to safety... it would have been nice to see more of her... it would have been good to see FL as well :(

We went to see it again yesterday, and I enjoyed it just as much, if not more, second time around (watching with a less critical eye) ... the only thing that fails it somewhat for me is the car chase, which is more like a car promo vid in places than a visceral chase... The opening sequence of QOS is so much better, in car chase terms, with some nail-biting action.

I think of the four DC films this is second for me, edging Skyfall by a gnat's winkle.

1.CR
2.SP
3.Skyfall
4.QOS

Hardly felt involved in the movie and there wasn't really anything to grip me to my chair.

The opening 15 minutes was very good I have to say but it had a pretty badly executed plot and the film kind of felt all over the place like there was no real direction to it.

I personally think DC plays the hard man very well as Bond but he's just a different Bond to the others.

He is always so serious and has the same face in every single scene. He just doesn't seem like a spy anymore and is more of a Bruce Willis type in die hard where he is all guns blazing.

It works well for the action scenes but Bond isn't just about action scenes and I don't like the general direction the films are going in.

Casino Royale was a good bond not a great one as the second half of the film felt quite unnecessary.

QoS no comment to be made here.

Sky fall was a brilliant Bond and a breathe of fresh air.

Spectre was just a mediocre Bond for me and it was quite underwhelming.

I just thought overall the film didn't know what it wanted to be and just ended up being quite flat in the end.

How he shoots down that helicoptor with a handgun from so far away was a load of nonsense as well not even remotely believable.

I think it was quite good but not great. My Daniel craig order from best to worst is

1. Casino Royale
2. Skyfall
3. Spectre
4. Quantum of Solace

I didn't really get the brain drill torture scene... wasn't the drill supposed to be damaging his brain in some way? In the end he just got up like nothing had happened

Cinematically speaking, I thought it was great. The action scenes and settings were fantastic. The plot and some of the characters felt so underdone though. 6.5/10 seems about right.

Blofeld's thinly-laid motive and lack of screen time were a real issue, and the end scene in the ruined MI5 building was really unimaginative and just boring really. C's death (as mentioned before) was really quite dull - though "I guess now we know what 'C' stands for" got a good laugh.

Madeleine was a good character and very well played, but the relationship seemed a bit rushed too me. Maybe it was just the timescale - seemed no more than a few days.

Brilliant opening scene, really well done but still a fairly large **** you to physics and, well, common sense. Proper Bond style over-the-top-ness™. This is followed by Sam Smith whining like a **** for the next five minutes to a backdrop of the usual someone-needs-to-lay-off-the-LSD display.

What follows is quite possibly one of the clunkiest, most forced, over the top, tired films I've ever seen. Throughout the whole film - every gimmick, every set piece, every twist, I can't help but think this is done. It's old. It's tired. It's just finished, it's time to move on. At numerous points during the film I was tempted to walk out but persevered to see what would happen, and yet another done-before piece would take place leaving me waiting again.

Once home I did a bit of reading on it and read that Spectre was trying to squeeze references from all 23 prior Bonds in to one film which made perfect sense. It just didn't flow well, it's like they forced them in and completely forgot about the plot at times. The scenes / locations were all over the place, we're in Rome. No, now we're in London. Now we're in North Africa. London again. I don't even.

I suspect that had I watched the previous films more religiously or even read a book or two that it would've possibly been much more enjoyable but as someone who isn't really a Bond fan, I thought it was ****.

And Daniel Craig can hang up his coat now, he's served his purpose. Someone should tally up how many times he's fixed his cuffs or done up his jacket in his Bond films, should be good for a lol as it's so damn obvious.

No. Just no.

Skyfall was a million times better.
