Just wait till the electric sports cars are released  ....and more of your regular type evs. Those things can be rapid.

These days, out right speed doesn't do it. Acceleration, handling, sound etc etc does more for me.

Yes and just wait until they are all restricted using GPS or similar technology too.
The future isn’t everyone ripping around in Tesla’s

Off to do NC500 in June with a group of like minds in proper metal. We will be going at 40mph at this rate.....but we will be smiling.

Ive been told that the eastern side is worse for speed cameras.
Fancy it myself this year too.

Same here, love getting pushed back into the seat hard! But more than happy to bang cruise on at 70 and go with the flow. Not worth the hassle of getting caught.

More recent speeding / police presence may be in some way down to COVID as well where there may be additional patrol plans to target those looking to cross borders and not follow the stay at home/local restrictions in place, particularly as we are heading towards the light at the end of the tunnel of restrictions. Given the lifting restrictions coming, and the better weather, more people are likely to think 'i'll head out for a spin, to hell with it, i've been stuck inside for months'. People more likely to push the boundaries of travel and speed.

As for speed limits ... hard one, there are so many arguments to it. Car get to limits faster and easier, which perhaps makes the limits seem more restrictive. Cars handle and grip so much better now, so reaching and holding limits (and pushing past them) makes them seem restrictive as well. Then there is ( imho ) a lack of or lowering of social patience where people just want to get the the next thing asap... including getting there ... thinking that they are entitiled to push the limits in order to acheive their journey rather than sit it out.

Its all money making ********.

And why speed? Because it's easy to prove.

There are lot of other far more dangerous traits of drivers, but difficult to prove.

And the above 60 in a 50 on a deserted dual carriageway is ridiculous, and it's things like that just encourage you to loose any respect for the speed limit.

I also think other times, 30mph in some built up areas especially where cars are parked on the street is too fast, you won't see young kids crossing out in between, but I choose to drive more slowly there.

Just like I choose to drive as fast as I like in done of the open country roads here where all you will hit is a pheasant, or if you'd unlucky a deer.

I still speed all the time so won't pretend to be an perfect saintly driver, but these days it's usually a few MPH over, maybe pushing 76 on the motorway and so on. I can't afford to lose my license, so drive accordingly. Adding in more crowded roads, pelotons of cyclists on the A roads round here, the cost of fuel alone, I've learnt to be content with a much slower pace.
Car drivers are facing a multi pronged assault these days. Speed limits for safety, speed limits for emissions controls and so on, and before EV drivers get to smug, they'll be coming for you tyre and brake dust emissions eventually.
Like other posters, what bugs me is speed cameras don't catch truly bad or unsafe driving, which almost everyone on here would support. It's a blunt instrument which ticks the "something must be done" box for the Daily Mail brigade.
Motoring can be pretty joyless, and the picture is just as grim in Europe with the likes of France cracking down all the time on autoroutes and reducing limits on N roads. Netherlands have caved into a 100kph limit during the day. Wouldn't be surprised if Germany cave in within a few years.
Being pro car is howling at the moon these days.

EVs won't be able to speed. They will use GPS and sign reading to cap the speed of them. Right now you can turn it off or override it, but it won't stay that way. The EU already plan to have it enforced on new cars at some point.

Once that happens councils will need to find another way to squeeze drivers for cash. More confusing bus lane layouts with cameras probably.

We are heading for a nanny state where fun things are slowly being banned due to "safety" campaigners.

I’ve been driving for 36 years and done 3 times for speeding, all 3 pointers. Considering the cars I’ve had and ‘moments’ that’s not too bad of a record. Just lately it feels I’m coming across them every day.

persecution complex:) there out to get you i tell you:) we all get periods like this i went through years practically needed a driver i was that fed up but it passes

I have no doubts whatsoever that road fund licence for EV's will be a thing within a decade, likely based on Kw/h output of the battery. The government won't let their cash cows of fuel tax and RFL go away.

The Evo Triangle has been ruined by various publications over the years and it has been heavily policed for a very long time as a result. As it happens, those three roads are a long way from being the best in the area so that's been fine, however the average speed cameras and more widespread realisation that it is heavily policed have led to people branching out to those other less-well-known roads and now those are all ruined too.

From a local perspective you can see why they have put heavy pressure on Police and local government - they are there living a relatively quiet rural life in a national park and there's all these idiots on loud bikes and in loud cars tearing it up day and night. Killing themselves and others in the process quite frequently as well.

Still, if you are relatively local you know what's what and can still enjoy some of the more out of the way places :)

Many of the good roads across the country are awful now due to the surfaces being in disrepair.

There was a good B road between where I live and my parents, but the tarmac is now so bad it's pretty much collapsed in places with big cracks and lumps in it. It's not even safe to go the speed limit.

Yeah the triangle has been ruined for ages now :(

I've not actually been there since the average speed camera's and i only live down the road, lots of other really nice roads around like you say but i find i never really drive quickly nowadays.

I thought when i sold my last Impreza that i'd really struggle without having a 'fast' car but i've literally not missed it at all, not sure if its getting old (sold my last impreza when i was 32 i think) or that there's not much fun to be had on the roads nowadays.

Wales is terrible for it. I often visit family there. Rarely if ever see as much as a police car in England M25/M4. As soon as you enter Wales, in addition to the increasing number of average speed cameras there are police everywhere. Generally fine once into the quieter, lesser known country roads, but still have to be careful.

Our local B and even A roads are terrible. Disgraceful on national speed limit stretches. There’s one corner that is always flooded and has been for months - fix it? Nope. Stick a ‘flood’ sign 2 meters in front of it. Amazing. It’s in the overtaking lane too.

Factor in the thousands of houses being built and no road expansion - yup, it’s going to be a fun commute in a few years time.

I’d look to upgrade to something like an AMG GT in a couple of years, but I’m wondering if it’s worth it anymore. It can look shiny on the drive I guess.

I pretty much just accelerate and brake hard up to and down from the speed limit these days, I rarely go over. There’s just one stretch on the way home where I know no camera could position itself and check there’s no car behind/in front. I think I’m becoming more aware of my mortality these days too vs being younger.

Exactly this, around my way the roads themselves are the best deterrent to speeding, they are in an awful state.

First time I drove my 3000gt the other week I went for a quiet shakedown spin, found 6 coppers with truecam 2's up the road in a 30 zone...

What i didn't realise before I set off, my speedo didn't register below 60mph. But I had a low tyre that needed air...

Thankfully nothing through the post but I did cack it when I got home and googled what they were holding, I originally thought they were filming a crime scene...
