Speeding n Stuff

I think it's actually detrimental to improving your driving skills if you spend half you time looking at the speedo and trusting the limit signs instead of actually looking where you are going and sensibly navigating the road ahead. People spend so much time afraid of getting points/fines, staying under the camera limit is all they focus on instead of safe driving.
That's why cars with auto limiters are a good thing.

It is what it is, do to crime take the fine etc.

Everyone speeds, most will do more than the 10mph they claim on here too. I sat on a motorway once for 100 miles (measured from Devon as a bit of a test on how long I could use cruise) at 70mph (or slower for roadwork but on the limit) in cruise control. Bar lorries and the odd car everything came past me at pace, some a serious pace. Everyone speeds and just being a little bit over is still speeding. You either support the speed limits or you don't, deciding what you think is an appropriate speed is no different to me deciding for you can't get a little bit pregnant.

50 in a 60 is about my limit for tolerable. Any lower and I'm looking to overtake. You can often tell the type of driver on slipways too, as there's one near me which you take in any car at 40, but some people brake so I know they will be the ones going slow. 99% of the time I'm right. I like to think of it as a useful life skill.

Some are limited to 50 MPH on NSL main roads such as commercial vehicles. Aside from the odd person whose vehicle might have gone into limp mode, etc. no excuse for sitting at 40 in an NSL though IMO these people generally make the road less safe for everyone around them.

Vans are about the fastest things on the road.
Few even realise the limit is lower for commercial vehicles.

A good bit of the A30 I drive on regularly 50-55 MPH is about as fast as is safe in a larger van - I not infrequently get a Sprinter, etc. come up behind me at close to if not 70, overtake when they can and go flying off at 70 - there is pretty much zero margin for error at 70 on parts of those roads (some of them even have limited to 56 MPH stickers on the back).

It has been known since I started driving over 35 years ago, that the Astramax van is the quickest vehicle on any road......ever. It is why it was used as a test mule for the Chiron (a little known fact) and why John Force uses one to get a speed kick.

Astra max has the same speed limit as a car, as it is a car derived van.

Sprinters are insane on the motorway.
@Rroff is your pickup limited to commercial vehicle speeds (legally) not that anyone bothers with them.

That’s 50mph national speed limit single carriageway
60mph national speed limit dual carriageway
70mph motorway.

I disagree. It again takes the judgement and control of a situation out of the driver's hands. We should be trying to make better drivers, not make them even dumber. I'm sure every halfway decent driver has had an occasion when they need to put their foot down and speed up, rather than slow down.

In fact, even the police used to say that one of the dangerous problems on motorways is people who don't put their foot down and decisively overtake. Instead they block the outside lane while creeping by traffic that's barely going any slower.

Nothing stopping you still putting your foot down when required. Sounds like you don't really know how the systems work. I'm confused though you initially said it was a bad thing constantly looking at your speedo, now its a dumb thing to not need to look at your speedo.

That's the way things are going though, taking things out of people's hands. Autopilot on aircraft is an example of where things are taken out of the pilots hands, usually makes things easier, but occasionally backfires (737 MAX etc).

Speed has a fair amount to do with how hard you press the accelerator.
Most UK vehicles can get you an instant ban including commercial ones.
Don’t need an AMG GTR GTI RS turbo or whatever for that

I have noticed this when in cruise control before on long motorway stints. Adaptive cruise control is a blessing for that. Although I have to admit I get fed up for cars doing 50 or less in lane one on an empty motorway.

You know I've never got a straight answer about that - I generally drive as if it is. It is over the weight limit for normal limits to apply with all the kit on (which is included on the V5) it but when I enquired about it I got mixed responses - some saying Navaras are exempt by name, some saying it depends on weight - I've never really pushed it though for an answer.

I sense you are great fun at a party.

I’m not the fool driving around in a 200mph supercar on UK roads.
I bet it makes you feel so much better than everyone else doesn’t it?
(I sense that from your posts).

edit: infact most people see a car like that and think ******!

Child killing monster.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Go hand yourself into the local constabulary and send the car to be crushed. You're a danger to everyone on the planet.

I have never not once ever strayed not even a single MPH above the limit.

I think your posts are saying more about your own personal insecurities than mine.

Sorry I cant talk to you on the left, that's how it works I believe. Flash Lambo poser.

There’s no point having a car like that unless you speed, we aren’t talking a few mph here, I’m no fool, we are talking 2x the limit+

If you don’t speed then what’s the point in having it other than to massage your ego?

I get the track day thing but personally I wouldn’t want to abuse a car of that value on a track on a regular basis.

It's certainly got to the point that there isn't really any point in having more than a 1.0 3-cyl eco engine in even a larger car these days. They have enough torque to pull it when loaded and as the fastest you can legally go on the roads is 70mph then you'll be easily managing that. Certainly I've even been looking at just a 1.0 Leon Estate with a DSG instead of the 1.5 as there's not really any point anymore. Might as well just have the smaller, more economical engine :(

I think I saw all new cars may be limited to 112mph (180km/h) soon? Don't see the point in this, just restrict them all to 70mph (112km/h) if it's that much of an issue.
