Speeding on a bicycle

ok heres the laws on cyclists, which have to be followedl, not advisory.

At night your cycle MUST have front and rear lights lit.
It MUST also be fitted with a red rear reflector
When using segregated tracks you MUST keep to the side intended for cyclists.
You MUST obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals.

You MUST NOT

* carry a passenger unless your cycle has been built or adapted to carry one
* hold on to a moving vehicle or trailer
* ride in a dangerous, careless or inconsiderate manner
* ride when under the influence of drink or drugs.

You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement
You MUST NOT cross the stop line when the traffic lights are red

cant find out what laws you break if you do this though, does refer to
Laws RTA 1988 sect 36, TSRGD reg 10(1) but can't find it..

What AcidHell2 said. :)

If there's one thing that really gets on my nerves its cyclists on the pavement. So I deliberately NEVER move out of the way....

He just admitted he was lying after my mass e-mails around the office and us having a joke about helecopters chasing him and police spikes in the road.

Was very funny and he then walked out of the office....LOL

Im a cyclist.. and I get complained at if I go on the road.. and if im on the pavement.. So I mainly stick to the pavement as people vs bike I win. but bike vs car i dont :( hehe

And for those of you who dont move... I dont budge either ;)

Acid, I did my cycling proficiency as a kid and I think I remember if your bike has wheels below a certain size (15" springs to mind) you can ride it on the pavement. Above that and it's on the road or not at all like you said.

I cycled as a teenager and reaching speeds of 30mph was a hard thing to do never mind with people walking around you!! like this guy said, His argument then turned to "dangerous cycling" after abit of google

Precisely what i do if people are walking on a cycle track, usually followed by a hand in the face or nicking their cap and throwing it on the floor as i go past! :p

I wouldnt do that on a pavement though as technically i shouldnt be there.

30mph on a MTB on the flat is quite possible but in a busy high street. ****** comes to mind. Thats why cyclists aregetting a bad name!

I just copied and pasted it from the highway code..

I can go just over 30mph on my bike, with flat land - but sadly not fast enough to get my picture taken for free. :p

As said, it is illegal but they will unlikly be able to track you down.

Down fill I have ridden my bike at a speed where it is unstable due to wind hitting you/it. No speed camera's there though and it was very steep so the reading will not be very accurate probally.

I can get up to about 20mph on the flat. A friend of mine was going down hill towards a speed trap. The policeman was egging him on to reach 30 probally to book him, but as he went through the it clocked in at 28 mph he knows this because the copper shouted you did 28 at him.

AFAIK, if you have a means of monitoring your speed (ie: speedometer) and you exceed the speed limit, then you can be done.

But I have to be giving my bike some welly to hit 20-25mph, never mind 30mph. 30mph is usually only reachable when going downhill.

You can do 30 on a flat on a MTB, hard to maintain for very long though, downhill I recon I could get a speed camera to go off, hhaven't tried it, I did speed once, went 35mph in a 30kmph zone in france :D

I'm fine about bikes on the pavements but they must give way, not only is it dangerous but bikes shouldn't be there so pedestrians get right of way.

28.5 mph is fastest i've gone on the road in since i got my speedo (1 week)

On a straight 25 for a minute or two then im knackered :(

I want to try a road bike now :o ( :p can tell i run outta gears)
