Speeding on a bicycle

Good id rarther be able to move round you than have the people who seem to move into my way when they are trying to get out of it and ive set off a speed camera before while cycling on the road gave it a nice cheeky smile and never heard anything more

Moving into someone's way, now that's just stupid.

By not getting out of the way, at least the cyclist has the chance to move out of the pedestrians way and no one gets hurt. I have been "clipped" by a cyclist who then shouted a mouthful of abuse at me. But stuff em. If they want to cause an argument, I'm quite happy to call the police and see who gets in trouble!

When I was growing up, it was compulsory for all school kids to take their cycling proficiency (sp?) test at least once every three years, and we used to think nothing of cycling the six miles to and from school along main A roads with 60mph limits. And yes, there were pavements....

Yep u can get done, my mate went down a hill in a 20mph zone is London and a policeman in a bush or wotever zapped him with a speed gun, and he got a ticket i think, not sure

I call BS.

How did he get a ticket? Did they track him down by his numberplate?

What, so he got 3 points on his imaginary bicycle license...

I got 35 out of my bike going down a slight hill. Was quite late and I went past one of those LED speed things, no cars about and it flashed 35. Mind you I was trying and I couldn't have sustained that for long.

ok heres the laws on cyclists, which have to be followedl, not advisory.

At night your cycle MUST have front and rear lights lit.
It MUST also be fitted with a red rear reflector
When using segregated tracks you MUST keep to the side intended for cyclists.
You MUST obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals.

You MUST NOT

* carry a passenger unless your cycle has been built or adapted to carry one
* hold on to a moving vehicle or trailer
* ride in a dangerous, careless or inconsiderate manner
* ride when under the influence of drink or drugs.

You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement
You MUST NOT cross the stop line when the traffic lights are red

cant find out what laws you break if you do this though, does refer to
Laws RTA 1988 sect 36, TSRGD reg 10(1) but can't find it..

I have no lights.A mate went too far and landed on them so they died.
I have no reflectors, uplifts and general wear snaps them off.
Carried my mate on the back of my bmx down the middle of some main road at like 30mps past a cop car.
Was holding on to my mates bag when my bb decided it would kill itself so he just pulled me along.
I always cycle on pavements, you ever tried to negotiate a 3 lane roundabout at rush hour?
I will stop for lights when they are read though. My gran and grandad where hit by a dumb read me motorist a few years back and it read me up my grandads health totally so read me that.

Today i was bombing it down a hill on the pavement.....three older ladies where walking up so i just hopped onto the road(it was empty at the time) and proceeded to max out in top gear 44-11t and did about 35+mph until i reached the next low kerb to go back up on.

I always stop,if its a not soo wide path, and get to the side to let people past.

The cops dont really have time and cba to stop you i guess. I launched off a raised kerb and landed on the main road at 11pm and all i got was a beep of the horn from the boys in blue lol. Aslong as you arent a read me or a ned/chav they are ok with you. Act like a smartarse and they do you for as much as they can.

To go on topic. If the cops round here wanted to catch me for speeding they would know exactly where to find me as im out on the roads/street every da in my work uniform or at mcdonalds or the usual spots.

One time my mate flew past a police van on the steepest hill around here, wrong side of the road with no lights......just got back infront of the van before getting hit by a skoda octavia lol. They put there lights on and all that jazz but a bike can outbrake a van and can go down lanes ;)

The offence is actually "cycling/pedalling furiously" as funny as it sounds...

It is an offence under the 1847 Town Police Clauses Act and does not relate to the posted speed limit. It is similar in nature to driving without due care and attention or inconsiderate driving.

So while it is not a speeding offence per se, 25mph in a 30mph limit can indeed be regarded as pedalling furiously and attract a conviction. I have read of a few BiB on PH who have charged people with such an offence.

Its still my goal to trigger a speed camera, last time i tried it though I snapped my rear axle (no im not kidding lol). My computer broke a long time ago, but when I had it on last year, my average speed was 18mph, fastest I ever did was 36mph down a fairly steep hill, I could barely see cos my eyes were watering so much, faster than that must be nuts.

I would get done for just riding about then.Im always cranking it through the gears and having only 32t front and 2.3" downhill tyres i have to pedal like hell for any sort of hill.

Also my goal to trigger a scamera. :D
