Spider-Man (PS4)

I do agree that Spider-Man can get a bit repetitive if you spend too long just going round hoovering up the collectables, though I think that's an issue with nearly all sandbox games. Nearly all of Ubisoft's games have boring side quests and far too many collectables, and even a great open-world game such as HZD had some repetitive and uninteresting content.

I think it's a bit harsh to call the story predictable though. Considering Spider-Man is a long established superhero property/franchise and anyone who's read the comics or seen the films will know about the origins and identities of the villains going into the game, there's not really anything they could have done to shake things up without angering Spider-Man fanboys.

So far it seems FAR too easy on “Amazing”. Also the quick time events are pathetically easy, almost impossible to fail... the worst implementation of the things I’ve ever seen.

UK charts: Spider-Man is the fastest-selling game of the year

PS4 exclusive Spider-Man is the fastest-selling game of 2018 so far.

It narrowly beat previous record-holder Far Cry 5 (which was available on more platforms) and sold almost double that of the previous biggest exclusive of the year - God of War on PS4.

Not only that, but it's the fastest-selling Marvel-branded game in history, beating the previous title LEGO Marvel Super Heroes by a big margin.

It's also the fastest selling individual format game since the PS4 version of Call of Duty: WWII in November last year. Spider-Man is the latest in a long line of hit PS4 exclusive single-player games.

It wasn't the only new release last week. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, also a PS4 exclusive, made it to No.2. Meanwhile, Destiny 2: Forsaken debuted at No.8. These charts only include physical sales and do not include any digital numbers.

Last week's No.1, F1 2018, drops to No.4. While the previous No.2, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, falls to No.6.

I turned the QTEs off as I hate them in any game. The combat is a weird mix, it's easy but unforgiving at the same time as the brutes or rockets can take you down super quick. All of the regular enemies are pretty much harmless as long as you can dodge or keep airborne.

It's interesting to read through the comments from release to now. Initially it's a lot of comments about how good the game is and how visually nice it is but after the weekend there's a lot of comments about the repetitiveness of it.

I enjoyed it but one of my first comments about it was that it became repetitive particularly once you unlock the latter content. Might have to go back to physical copies for single player games so I can get some cash back once I finish them.

I tend to play through SP games once then sell on. I've never paid full price for a digital game apart from cheaper indie games. Everything else would have to have a heavy discount for me to bite.

I succumbed and bought the digital deluxe version yesterday - with discounted credit it worked out to be about a quid more than the regular version so a nice saving there.

Couple of hours in and it's everything I thought it would be and more. What a game and well worth the move back over to the Sony side of things.

The price of console games digitally makes me sad inside :D

What's the easiest way to take down Brutes?

I tend to always get hit by them even when I press dodge as well, they seem to come at me quick with a double attack maybe I need to double press dodge.

Anyone found some of the funny glitches yet?

This game is really good! Really.

Ordered a copy on Friday, and spent Sunday/yesterday playing a good few hours, and it's really impressed me. The voice acting for SM has actually made me chuckle a few times - he's a lot like Deadpool.

It plays so smoothly, the map runs perfectly on my Pro, just really impressive.

Looking forward to ploughing more hours into this.

I'm really loving the Fisk side missions that comes in 6 waves? Love all the side mission stuff and slinging about for hours. As well as the stealthy stuff. :D
