Yep, they are quite common around here, had a lady get bitten in Bognor a couple of years back and there have been some reports from Worthing too.

Definately a Steatoda (maybe a nobilis, but I wasn't about to bait it ), that had made a home in my deck chair. Chucking a cricket into it's web revealed that it was extremely hostile
