We all know neil lennon's unstable mental history. Last night showed that McCoist knows exactly what buttons to push to make him flip. He can't have got more than 2 or 3 worrds into lennon's ear and the man starts foaming at the mouth. Roll on next season. Lennon will be in Dykebar by Christmas.

Neil Lennon is on record as saying he suffered from depression. Is that what you're referring to? If so, that's a bit low.

From now there will be zero tolerance of trolling, trouble causing and sectarian posting

Celtic and Rangers will be referred to as Celtic and Rangers and nothing else, what some consider acceptable others do not

Punishments will go in stages

1 - Infraction
2 - 7 Day suspension
3 - 14 day suspension
4 - 28 day suspension and removal of Sports Arena access rights

Members who already have history may start at the 7 day suspension level

Without being a picky git, surely 'Gers or The Bhoys can't been seen as offensive. (I tend to use Gers sometimes just for the sake of being lazy and don't want banned incase i forget =<).

Good job on the handling of this by the mods.

I agree there are certain terms that are not offensive but there are borderline ones too which some posters say are ok and others disagrre, often some of the mods do not know which are which so the above keeps it simple with no detriment to the meaning of any post

Nicknames and phrases used can be a bit too subjective i.e. it might be fine for a fan of the team to refer to themselves and other supporters with that term but if the opposition fans do it the nickname is offensive. Unfortunately in the SPL threads particularly it seems that if there is any laxity in application of the guidelines/rules that people soon return to terms and attitudes that aren't ok hence it has to be spelled out and sanctions imposed. The limiting of the acceptable terms does mean that there should be no doubts about what is or is not ok in referring to the teams.

I'd be delighted if we could all play nicely but it seems that we can't so disappointingly this is the way it has to be, the other option I suppose is no SPL threads or talk at all and I'd really prefer if that wasn't deemed necessary.

What about baiting the other supporters?

As you can see I don't post much mainly because I cant be bothered with the childish behaviour displayed.

But you see countless comments like: (these are made up but you see these all the time)

"come in come in wherever you are"
"Celtic dominant again, whats rangers excuse this time?, hail hail"

This is an actual quote

"Did you have anything to do with the Facebook hate page that was about Neil Lennon.

I don't suppose you post on this site do you? Full of idiots who do not show your clubs support in a good light at all."

These type of comments invite negative responses.

But as usual I will return to a forum lurker. First post in a long time and all I do is quote what a pundit says and suddenly im getting hounded because i havent posted my opinion

What about baiting the other supporters?

Baiting other supporters is classed as trolling and is excluded both under a general forum prohibition and the specifics laid out at the start of this SPL thread. If you feel that someone is baiting/trolling then please RTM it (little red hazard triangle next to the post) and put down your comment, the moderators can use the help in case they miss things as they will from time to time.

I would consider most, if not all, of that unnacceptable

hopefully we can make it a more pleasant place for all fans to enjoy without feeling intimidated

from the clearer footage you can see diouf's arm movement change, he did this to kayal too, did he not in the last match?

similar to rooney's offence the other day as well, he is lucky that the physio was only clipped, and never got the full brunt of it.

i suspect he will plead ignorance and that he just brushed into him by accident whilst walking past, but you can tell by the change in arm movement, then he turns slightly too, that it was no accident.

this then led to lennon shouting at diouf then mc coist shouting at lennon.

diouf is giving rangers a worse reputation, i dont understand why you would keep someone like that in the team and play him in heated derby matches.

i was gonna stick £50 on a sending off during the game, wish i had.

Only just sat down and watched SSN to hear about all this, Diouf really seems to cause trouble wherever he goes doesn't he :p

TBH though from the video I for one can't really see that he did anything, maybe he said something as the physio ran past?

At least this has brought some exposure to the league and who knows maybe a lot more people will tune in to the next Old Firm Game in a few weeks time

i think percentage of population wise, scotland is the biggest football supporting nation in the world.

then add in 90% of them support either celtic or rangers, and all the other stuff, most of which is banned on here, its probably the biggest rivalry in the world.

you can guarantee excitement thats for sure, it even manages to spread itself into this thread lol. i wish rangers have to play lafferty in the next one from the start, i will stick £50 on him to get booked and £20 for sending off.

What do you mean by "biggest rivalry in the World"?

I've always considered some of the South American derbies to be just incredible. They're really amazing in terms of the rivalry, in terms of football on the pitch I'd say maybe El Classico. It terms of marketing and such, the biggest have to be El Classico / Milan v Inter? Not picking an argument here, just questioning. I've always considered the old firm to be a big match, massive in Scotland and pretty big in terms of Europe as well, but not the biggest.

Saying that, I thought the other Old Firm game, there was some decent football played. The most recent game, was horrendous in terms of football but entertaining to see it all kick off, in an odd morbid way.

On an unrelated note, Lennon looks mental.

I notice in the papers to day Police are suggesting an alcohol sales ban on big match days. I'm not sure this is the solution but it is certainly an acknowledgement of the problem - these people just can't be trusted with booze. The problems seen at Old Firm games are just a focal point for the wider social problems in Scotland.

Lennon's ban had been reduced to 4 games, quite rightly I say. He will miss games against Accies (H), Inverness S.Cup (A), Hibs (H) and the Co-op Cup Final. Hopefully this will give him a chance to reflect and realise he can't allow himself to get wound up so easily.

I think it's a sign of the times when 'marketing' is taken as a measure of how big a rivalry is. Companies like SKY have transformed how football is perceived and consumed, and not for the better.

Local rivalry's are not, in my view, about marketing or TV deals or superstars. They're about history, politics, religion, socio-economics, and all sorts of other factors that are wrapped up in a football game.

I don't know if the Celtic/Rangers rivalry is the biggest in the world but it seems to envelop a huge percentage of the population. I think with this, and any other big local rivalry, you have to experience it to understand it.

But, as I've said before, there is only one correct answer to 'What is the biggest derby in the world?', and it's 'Your local one'. :)
