Split Air con

having individual units for each room will be pushing the price up significantly. Can they not do 1 or 2 ducted units up there? We have one 5kw unit for all 4 bedrooms and it copes just fine all year round, and can be balanced between the bedrooms to some extent by adjusting how much each duct is open in each room.

Never had any of my units serviced and they've been in 5 years this year.

Yes; after the initial quotes we now looking at sharing units between bedrooms to bring down the price. The need for the system to be ducted to bedrooms to meet wife approval with the increase of material/labour cost from the demand from the heatwave is increasing the price as well.

Three years the quote was £13K for a similar system.

Not worried about it being serviced as the last house we had one, so that is fine, the Fujitsu system have been quoted comes with 5 years parts warranty and the Daikin system has 7 years parts only according to the quote.

The wife likes the Fujitsu system as we can get two of the internal units in a soft black and they would look better in our living room and bedroom, not worried about if we change the colour in the living room as we have had the same dark blue in the last three houses so safe to say its staying lol.

Thanks

My understanding on the warranty that it is subject to the manufactures terms and conditions being met and service agreement being in place with the installer. If not it defaults to the normal 1 year only.

we have Daikin Heat Pump Air to Water system it serviced/inspected once a year by Octopus that cost only £120 per year but it does cover emergency breakdown in the house heating system.

As pointed out by above the service is very simple; cleaning out the dust/water filter, repair any fins and then spray some very mild sanitiser/deodoriser on the exchange.

If your wife likes the Fujitsu units and it is cheaper decision made. :)

Wouldn’t mind a portable unit for work. The main brands though don’t have stock until December/march. It’ll be tougher than usual to get one this winter. Probably have to get a generic model and hope for the best.

Our house air con is bliss, just £30 to cool the whole house in July. That’s cheaper than heating in the depths of winter and worth every penny to me. There are certainly fewer people laughing at me this summer for having it and coming up with lots of excuses not to put in air con. I do feel a bit smug when I see every house down the road with every possible window open, for all the good that’ll do.

Looking back, 2020 was a great time to get it installed, it’s had a lot of use since. Not a chance I’d be able to use the gaming room this summer either.

AC servicing when we looked at the last company I worked for was cleaning out the dust filter (ie blast it with some compressed air) and then spray some very mild sanitiser/deodoriser into it

This is why we didn’t bother, it’s expensive too. I do the indoor units myself with the professional products. It’d be cheaper to replace any parts/whole units than pay for servicing here.

Which products do you use?

Machinemart have preorders for portable units for October delivery. I dont really know if the branded ones are any better than generic, end of the day they are all using one crappy hose and probably all come from the same factory in China.

How many of you have used the new £2500 government grant to replace your gas boiler with one of these air-to-air heatpumps (airconditioners which both heat and cool)?

I’ve ordered two, thanks! Like you say, all made in the same place. In my experience they only vary slightly in noise output.

Getting air-con put in, going with Daikin Perfera, the bit that doesnt make sense to me is that im being told we need 2 outdoor units for the 4 indoor units we are having. Our rooms arent large by any standard so im not sure why we would need two outdoor units.

what spec outdoor units have they quoted for you?
basically two of 2MXM40A works out cheaper than having one 4MXM80A outdoor units
if you don't need all 8kw, then ask them to spec one 4MXM68A outdoor unit

cost-wise, two 2MXM40A costs about the same as one 4MXM68A

i'm also getting the daikin perfera - mine's a 4 way split with 1x 2.5kw, 1x 2kw and 2x 1.5kw indoor unit with a 6.8kw outdoor unit

Thanks, ive also just had the heads up on planning permission as well, we are semi-detached and so can only have 1 unit outside under permitted development apparently.

Do you know the model numbers for the indoor units you are having fitted?

Thank you, follow up, how much have you been quoted for this?

£7500 fully installed inc electrics and comissioning, west midlands, with the standard 5 year parts warranty, 12 months labour warranty
from googling around probably on the higher end of the scale, but i guess installers are so swamped with work they get to charge what they want
how's your quote looking like?
