Split Air con

Got my first quote in. For all 3 bedrooms and the living room.

3 x 1.6kw units
1 x 2.5kw unit
1 x 2.5kw external unit
Daikin
£4400

Panasonic
£4000

Midea
£3600.

Thinking of the Panasonic as it has a 7 year warranty Vs 5 for the others.

We have just had a Midea Xtreme Save 3.5kw installed to replace a knackered Electriq split for £1k and its ok for the money. But, the outdoor unit never seems to modulate down that much, even at night, whereas the other unit the fan was barely spinning. And this one hums badly through the wall, even though it is mounted on a dedicated mounting bracket. I think i might get him to drop it to ground level so that it has less contact with the brickwork.

We are also looking to have our bedroom unit replaced and an additional unit installed in the lounge directly below. We are thinking Daikin 2 x 2.5 kw for and a 4kw outdoor unit for both rooms which are around 20m2, although they do have big windows. I would go for 2 x 3.5kw units but i would also need to spec a bigger outdoor unit to cope with the additional loading, plus the 3.5kw we have in there at the moment, when it was new, it was almost too cold!

Or does anyone think a 4kw outdoor would be ok on 2 x 3,5kw indoor units?

:)

Depending on ambient I used just over £2 for last Tuesday having 1 multisplit running the office and my bedroom all day then switching Downstairs unit on in the afternoon along with the 3rd from the multi split unit which is the hallway upstairs.

Both are 5kw units, one a is a triple and the other is a single unit.

The triple does 3 x 2.5kw indoor units which feed the hallway, master bedroom and the small office all upstairs.
2nd unit does the dinning room , living room and cools the kitchen.

@CaptainRAVE If that's only £55, when does that unit cost fix run out? :p What temperature do you run your units at? That's a surprisingly low figure for 5 units - I know they're very, very efficient when they're just ticking along but that's less usage than I could have imagined.

Runs out end of July, but even then we’re still only at around £100 for the year so far.

They’re usually set to about 23C. Not all on all the time, but certainly in rooms we’re currently in and I’m at home for about 15 weeks a year. I’ll often set it lower in my gaming room, that unit works hard for such a small room.

People generally think they cost far more to run than they do, but the modern units are very efficient and the inverters will only run as fast as they need to unlike the old systems.

That makes no sense. Wouldn't look very nice plastering around an AC unit. Not to mention I want to drop the ceiling and replaster board that as well.
I wasn’t talking about plastering around an AC unit but the power cable runs and copper pipes can be plastered around or placed in side the walls like a first fix where you run the cables in the walls…

But the ac guys do everything in one day, so you don't get a chance to make good after 1st fix.

Depends on the company I guess
I imagine any of them will do a 1st fix/2nd fix job for you but if I were in there position I would be charging extra to have to come back on another day to finish off.

I guess if you are having multiple units fitted that might take more than a day you might get away with this approach without incurring extra costs.

I am limited in experience as i have only ever had one unit fitted and it was very neat, there was nothing to make good afterwards.
