Split Air con

I've been tempted to get another unit for our bedroom and power it with our solar but it's not always that hot in our master bedroom apart from a few nights a year (few nights inbound!), but it's been a god send in my office bedroom which is south facing as I can have it on all day cooling the room whilst I work.

Is it possible to add extra room units to an existing install later on or would that require an extra external unit?

e.g. if I got the 2x bedrooms done and then added the living room 6 months later - Do I need an extra outside unit (whatever they are called) or can I add it to the existing unit, assuming that it is specced to run 3x units in the first place of course.

As long as you buy an external unit that supports enough in door connections then you can add internal units later

well that was a nice surprise, cheaper than I was expecting

2 x daikin units, fitted inc electrics £3,600

he's put down 2kw units, I think 2.5kw and might upgrade the indoors to the next model up so might be a bit more yet

It says:

1 x 2MXM40A9
2 x FTXM20A

He says 2kw is perfect for our rooms (3.2mx4.2m) and anything higher would need a lot of electrical work

Still tempted just to bite the bullet

Have you had other quotes for comparison? It feels a little pricey but I'm not an expert. My quote is £6400 for 1 x 10kW outdoor unit and 4x indoors units (2kw, 2kw, 5kw, 3.5kw) including electrics.

This might be useful.

TBH, 2 kW is probably fine unless you have massive windows or poor/no insulation. However, you can run 2x 2.5 kW on the same outdoor unit anyway, so electrics wouldn't change. The only difference between the Daikin unit capacity is the maximum fan speed anyway, the heat exchanger in the FCUs is the same size (and refrigerant priority changes if you mix multiple capacities, but that doesn't apply if they're all the same)
