***SPOILERS AHOY!!!*** Football 1st-5th Jan

Liverpool have played far better football today but there's no organisation, no desire and no confidence.

As much as I dislike the thought of wanting Liverpool to lose it'll be worth it if Hodgson gets sacked tonight.

As much as i want him to go he wont after today regardless of a win or loss, From impresion i have got from new owners they will take their time and not just do it, So i sense were stuck with him untill summer which is very very bad

As much as people have joked about us being relegated it's now a very real possibility. It only takes one or two wins to move back up the table but the same can be said about the teams below us and some of them look more likely to win than us.

I concur, things need to change. I have my doubts that Hodgson has the backing of the players, I have my doubts that he has the ability to inspire the players and I have my doubts that any funds in the transfer market would be spent wisely by him. We hover mere points above the relegation zone, should Villa and Wigans results go well and Birmingham do well with the game in hand they have, Liverpool would be sitting 4th from bottom with over half the season gone. Its all ifs and buts of course but the situation looks dire and I am just not sure that Hodgson has the impetus to turn it around, and thats looking at it from the short term view, let alone the long term view in which I definitely think he isnt the right man.

Oh i fully agree PK but i still dont think he will get sacked untill summer, He should have gone already as if he is buying players like konchesky etc in jan we wont move up anyway.

From angle my source showed it from he could have done a better job at attempting to stop it also.

Well were 1-0 and shouldnt be imo, We played far better if we keep it up we can score.

Maybe he could have, but it wasn't his job.
Skrtel was drawn forward and ended up behind the player Agger was Marking, leaving 2 in the box + 1 runner with Glen to deal with, its not easy.
And after all, isnt the point of Man Marking for everyone to do their job? cant blame Johnson at all.

As for relegation, the owners need to ask now or their 'epic swindle' of a 300m purchase will be pointless.
And to be frank - they deserve to be chased out of the club as fast as H&G were for not acting sooner, should relegation be the end result.

It is actually a real possibility imo. The last time we ended a year as low as we are currently , was 1953/4 and that season we were relegated. Call me arrogant but I really do think it would be a shock to football if Liverpool were relegated.

I think the Liverpool squad needs an overhaul and until this happens there's no point sacking your manager. You just need to see out the season, rebuild in the summer and try again next season.

Thats true but like i say from were im watching it only showed one angle and in the angle it showed none of what you described.

I mentioned this point a few weeks ago and it was met with responses akin to wtf (Although it was Spurs fans so understandably they'd like to think they're getting closer purely because of their improvement). To be more specific I said something along the lines of none of the teams this year would have had a chance of winning the league for the past 7+ seasons, haven't seen a thing to change my mind on that.

Perhaps the teams lower down the league now do have more quality, but all of our 'best' teams are so far below what we've seen for a while it's unbelievable. Terribly average Man U team sit top of the league currently unbeaten, although to anyone with any sense that means nothing more than we've been fortunate not to lose yet rather than being genuinely tough to beat.

The one thing you can say is it does make things a little more interesting. There is no two horse race this year, any from Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, City or United would not surprise me if they ended up winning it.

I think its a touch overstating it to say none of these teams could have won the league in the past few seasons, what I'd say is the teams of the past 3 years, would have been absolutely ripped to pieces by Arsenal/Chelsea/Utd from 5-12 years ago. Though theres been a significant drop off in quality of the top 3 in the past year, bigger than any other season by a HUGE margin, the top 4 have been getting worse for 5 years.

Spurs literally haven't changed an iota from last year, frankly with Utd barely being able to win away and Chelsea barely being able to play football as I've said before, its flat out embarassing City/Arsenal/Spurs haven't stepped up and gotten a pretty big lead over Utd/Chelsea.

This is also the ONLY reason Liverpool came 2nd that year, Arsenal/Chelsea being crap and Utd throwing points away, it was merely Liverpool screwing up less than the rest but from a weaker starting position, now they've had their drop aswell and they've plummeted down the league(deservedly).

The quality in say the Arsenal vs Utd, Chelsea vs Spurs games haven't seen anything that poor in the EPL ever. Even at 6-1 losses to Utd Arsenal looked less pathetic than Utd did beating us this season.

I'm at a loss to explain it, personel is worse, Utd have money tied up in old codgers, and Arsenal persist with people who wouldn't get a reserve game in the old Arsenal sides but even so playing hugely worse football these teams are still topping the leagues, thats whats surprising.

By saying that you're implying that you think our position in the table is solely down to the strength of our squad. Bar Mascherano this squad finished a very disappointing 7th with an apparently awful manager last season...

Would Hodgson be buying, though? Surely it'd be Comolli...

Well I could understand it if Comolli had input into it, but I would hope that a manager is at least part of the decision. I really cannot see how a person can manage players if they didnt want said player in the first place. So if the transfers are solely down to Comolli then we have an even bigger problem.

I've never felt an atmosphere in the kop like this before! People are turning on each other, you can feel the anger!! Bad times! #LFC

As for the Torres incident, Cahill went down holding his face ( .. yeah) after they clashed knees ..
Torres reacted badly to it, something like telling him his face will truly hurt if he doesnt get the **** up.

fair enough, reading the bbc site its hard to tell

Realistically, 1 or 30 players, Johnsons job is to get ahead of the players closest to him, get to the ball first, and clear it, he failed to do all those things therefore he made a mistake and screwed up big time for the goal. Should other defenders have also been trying to win the ball and been in better positions, yes, does that make Johnson blameless, no. By design, your player furthest away will have the best view of the entire area and be best placed to see and react to those kinds of runs into the box.

He most certainly didn't do well but its not completely his fault.
