***SPOILERS AHOY!!!*** Football 1st-5th Jan

Always amuses me that the marker takes the blame when man marking goes wrong but the system gets the blame when it's zonal marking :o

Good point.
Not a huge fan of zonal marking but you rarely see people pointing the finger at individuals even if 80% of the tactic worked and one or two guys just let something free in their zone.

You always hear people talk on Sky about zonal marking being flawed because players are static (rather than attacking the ball from a runup) but on the flipside you can argue that with man-marking sometimes it is inevitable that the attacker gets goalside (and bear in mind 'goalside' in some cases may simply just mean being first to the ball on the near post) of the defender, he always gets the blame but that's the risk you take under that system.

Well it'll be a case of the manager (whoever it is) saying to Comolli that he needs a player for a certain position, then Comolli will come back with suitable suggestions.

Thats fair enough, saves the manager trawling about for a player, however I would hope then that the manager has a say on whether said suggestion is one he would like or not. Or if the manager has a particular player that he wants that he is able to say so.

If the manager has no say on whether a transfer target is one he wants, or does not have the ability to say I want this particular player...do what you can to get him. Then its a massive problem. So ultimately Hodgson does have the ability to say yay or nay to a signing.

In general with a DoF in place, the manager will ask for a player which meets certain criteria and the DoF will compile a list and go from there.

Big conflict of interest between the owners and Roy though. They favour younger players with a big resale value whereas Roy favours aging players with experience.

haha, terrible goal for West Ham, good run, good ball across horrible horrible miss by Cole, should have been a simple side foot into the net but he completely fluffs it, then it hits the Wolves player behind him and bounces off him into the corner.

West Ham deserve a bit of luck though, had none for 18 months now.

This is why the league has been so interesting and different the last few years. Teams are mostly so close to each other and inconsistent that a few good results propels them up half a table and vice versa. The sides in the middle have the same consistency, it's amusing to see fans panic as a result.

Chasing the game, playing 35 yards higher up the pitch so Torres spends more time in and around the box rather then the halfway line, what a difference.
