** Spoilers ** Carling Cup Quarter-Finals [Nov 30th-1st Dec]

Johnny Evans is just not a premiership footballer, he's had enough time at our expense to prove he is and failed miserably.

Please go away Evans, perhaps try Swindow because Smalling is 10x better.

heh sod that I'm gutted. Mind you the kids only have themselves to blame if they get a bit less playing time now.

You're going about it the wrong way, don't win trophies just buy them it's much easier and guarantees you silverware :D

That really summed the match up for us, Giggs crossing a freekick to absolutely no-one

Don't know what you mean, Giggs for the rest of the night couldn't NOT hit Kovac with anything he did. Kovac is awful, and somehow every pass and cross, corner, it all hit Kovac who barely moves. Couldn't stop laughing when he tried a daft pass, hit Kovac about 5 yards away, went straight back to giggs, then he did it again.

Not long after he was taking a corner and I was saying it will hit Kovac, and it did, Giggs was woeful throughout, not a great game to go to, bad weather and Fabio probably can't be blamed for slipping, loads of people slipped, it was almost inevitable it would happen to someone at a crucial moment.

Bit tough to suggest(someone else did) that it was silly to play a weakened team against a West Ham side that just had a great result, as West Ham rested some of the best performers from the weekend game aswell. Obina and Cole were awesome though, Spector, in midfield, just awesome which as he was between woeful and crap all last year in defence that was a bit of a surprise.

Upson and Greene look back to their first year under Zola form, IE, Greene remembering how to play in goal and Upson remembering how to be a CB. Upson had been pretty damn great for West ham for 2 years up till Torres knocked him out the team a few games into last season. WIth the defence working better Greene is a completely different player behind them, for 3-4 games his top quality saves have been back, even when he made that shockingly poor clearance he got out and stopped you guys scoring.

This could be that form West Ham needed to really shoot up the table.

Lets be honest although Sir Alex will be unhappy with the way his second team played, he wont mind too much being out of this cup. Realistically he wants to get the league title back, have a good stint in the champions league, as well as the FA cup.

Looking at his team tonight the less fronts his team have to fight it on the better. best to concentrate on the main competitions. As a Spurs fan getting knocked out of the league cup by the Arsenal U15s was a blessing in disguise.

Wow surprised at how badly Utd lost tonight to West Ham 4-0...ouch but then its the second team i suppose...

Well done to Arsenal for beating Wigan...at least we still have hope of winning the worthless cup but honestly ill take it as beggars cant be choosers:p

There's absolutely no point in me being any more annoyed at us going out after the result tonight. If we'd stayed in it United would have won, because we're never that lucky :( Would love to see West Ham get it now tbh!

United in playing woeful again this season shocker. And guess what? I had to watch it too.

Your second string is unbelievably average. Woeful defending, woeful passing, and no creativity. Against a West Ham team without their Only Good Player™. At least they made it a decent match to watch.

My favourite bit was how Cole got called offside, and still couldn't get the ball into the net, against a stationary Kusczak. And then he scored two.

I've been saying(with decreasing conviction, since mid last year) that West Ham really do have a LOT of quality in the team but mostly due to injuries almost the entire squad has been unable to get to form. In the last two games, you've seen Behrami, Cole, Parker, Spector, Upson, Green, Tomkins, Gabbidon, Stanislas and Boa Morte all hit form. Of them all but two(i think) have had serious long term injury problems, missing months and months, some of them the best part of a season or two in the last couple of years.

They've been waiting for luck, right timing, the right performance and the right result to put it all together. Utd weren't very good and Giggs, O'shea, Evans, and for me Fabio, Fletcher, they just aren't good enough, put enough quality around them in the first team squad and they manage to get results, but put average/promising/not great players around them and they are rubbish. Giggs has been rubbish for a year, managed a few fluke performances just before that and got a "sorry we ignored you 5 years ago" pfa award thrown in to cap his career off. But West Ham were superb all over the pitch, even with the utterly useless Kovac on the pitch.

Thing is West Ham still has a couple of very very good players out injured who looked fantastic a year or two ago, Collinson probably the best.

West Ham won't be a walk over in the Carling cup, at all, Arsenal don't have anything in the bag yet, especially if we underestimate West Ham. Someone like Cole will rip Djourou a new one and probably force another red card type mistake from Kos.

Obina though was ridiculous tonight, did he get all four assists, I think he probably got 3 actual assists and it was his shot blocked by Fabio who then slipped, for Spector to get his second.

The thing is what can we do? How much would we get for him if we sold him? Who could we buy with that money?

Thats an irrelevant point, because how much we got for him, or we could buy, doesnt matter, the only important thing is getting rid of him so he isnt at the club, so he cant be picked.
As I've been saying since he first started playing, he is garbage.

Why have players like Berbatov and Rooney and leave them on the bench.

Maybe because there are more important games for them to be playing in - like the CL next week and the away trip to Blackpool in a few days time

and for the record neither of those two were even on the bench

Whether Utd have won the CC 3 times in the last 5 years or not , its not a major competition

I lol'd at you last season saying you though Smalling was better than Evans. You were spot on mate, he's light years better on current form.

Evans hasnt had a great 12 months it has to be said, but on top form he is still the better player imo (although Smalling is catching up fast) - really dont know whats happened to JE, his first season + a bit where really very good (for a young centre half), but for the majority of 2010 he has been pretty dire

well done to WHU they played what was infront of them and with the home crowd were excellent on the night - they deserve lots of credit. One less distraction after Xmas and 3 less games to worry about can only be a good thing - really hope the reaction/fightback to this loss carries Utd to four successive victories coming up (blackpool (a), Valencia (h), Arsenal (h), Chelsea (a) ) - Im starting to pray already.....

Blackpool will probably be called off.

Valencia is more or less a dead rubber - a win would be nice but a draw would do, and even topping the group is no guarantee of a better tie next round.

Arsenal away is a fixture in which we've played consistently well recently, and I expect us to do well again this season.

Chelsea away is traditionally an awful game for us so I'd be delighted with a draw but after last season we're due a bit of luck against them (we outplayed them in the same game last year and got nothing for it!).

7 points from our next 3 league games would be fantastic but I'd take draws at this stage against Arsenal and Chelsea.

I never said he should have.

So who exactly did you want him to play last night then if not the first teamers?

Have we got another team somewhere that I don't know about

All you did was moan about how they wasn't good enough to play against a Prem team in the QF's of the cup. Or did you want a mix of youth and experience? A few first teamers to give West Ham the run around when there are far more important games coming up in the next couple of weeks?
