**SPOILERS** Football 26th Feb - 2nd Mar 2011

Doesn't the described incident against Arsenal have Rooney pretty much raking his leg across the ground towards Almunia while in the air, effectively meaning he kicks him for the 'contact'? :p

It's just that I don't understand why you would agree with the penalty when as a United fan I think Rooney dived and can't even claim that Almunia would have impeded him in a hypothetical scenario where Rooney tries not to go down.

Someone can be holding your ankle in the penalty box when you shoot, you can shake it off, or do you complain and take the penalty?

Either way if someone is going to/willing to obstruct you, you take it, it is their fault for doing so.

Staring straight at it - so?

Even more of a reason why it was so ridiculous he missed it!

I'm not saying it wasn't a second yellow, was stone wall second yellow.

But are you seriously trying to tell me the FA will/should do something after this week?
Quick Ancelotti claim the witch hunt is on.

I've said already I don't think Smalling was going to impede a Zhirkov going for the ball, only a Zhirkov adjusting his run to take into account an impetuous Smalling.

When did I even say that?!

But the FA should serious do something after this week, employ new referees! :p

He could have stayed up too, as soon as contact he just flopped. Many would have done the same though, but normally see players skip the challenge and carry on at the ball.

Everton dominated us in both games last season. You went back to 2004 looking for your last league win....but you beat us last year

That's exactly what I said in my post  One win in 2010 and then I got bored looking for the other league win.

We are hardly a bogey team for united, sadly.

From memory, it was touch and go whether Rooney was on his way down before the contact or not.

It wasn't as obvious as the Bentley one for Spurs earlier in the season. He was laying on the ground before the contact was made.

And if you look at the incident today again, there was only a split second between Zhirkov running onto the ball and the 'challenge' by Smalling. It's not as straight foward as you claim for him to have avoided contact.

Sorry confused you with the poster i was quoting, sorry mate.

Well surely you think he should be banned in retrospect? I do, but it won't happen if Rooney got away with what he did, although if something did happen to Luiz it would possibly be the most hilarious thing ever.

And yes, employ new referees and get sodding video technology in with a challenge system. (Go NFL style, throw a flag in if you are manager and the play continues to the ball goes out of play then is reviewed, 3 flags.)

If you think it was a soft pen, then go watch footage of the Berbatov one against Liverpool

Can't believe that one escaped my bias mind.

EDIT: Wonder what the odds are on Dowd to bottle it under pressure from a Berba dive on sunday.

Yeah but hang on, one massive thing was different there.

Agger tried to tackle Berbatov and got the player not the ball. Smalling made no attempt to tackle Zhirkov and the player just through himself into him and went to the ground.

I'm not saying he should have jumped over his leg or anything like that, I'm saying that Zhirkov adjusted where he chose to step to take into account Smalling's leg, thus forcing Smalling to 'impede' him.

I'm kind of amazed the Rooney one isn't burned into your memory, I remember clearly he was already flying to the floor when he dragged his leg into Almunia.

With VP out for a few weeks and Theo also, maybe Utd have a slim lifeline in the EPL

Utd still need to get something from the trip to Anfield - which Im really not sure about given the centre-half's available

I hope Smalling can shrug his "error" off easily/quickly

The biggest problem for us against Arsenal will be our midfield easily, the likes of Carrick being danced around by Nasri and friends. :(

Well that was pretty good.

It's strange that Luiz played phenomenally for large periods of that match, and yet still commited at least three yellow card offences, and only got pulled up for one of them. If there are any Chelsea fans still here, can you please tell me why Bosingwa didn't start? Ivanovic was utterly rubbish against Nani, and you only have to look at how quiet the latter was once he switched flanks to see how easily a proper full back dealt with him.

Oh come on, this is Arsenal, even their fans know they'll naff it up.
You know a Man Utd fan is being overly pessimistic when he thinks Arsenal are going to take points off them.
