**SPOILERS** Football 26th Feb - 2nd Mar 2011

Dire 2nd half performance but we will scape goat the ref instead of concluding that we have too many average players.

Fletcher was awful.
Carrick was God awful.
O Shea looked unfit to wear a football shirt let alone man u.

But Ferguson will blame the ref and not the players. But we got stuffed second half.

Thankfully it's only the minority of Utd fans on here but this game raising stuff that some Utd fans come out with is cringeworthy and doubly so when it's said after a loss away to a side like Chelsea :o

If you mean the Terry penalty incident he always gets away with them, no ref would have gave it. I agree he got some other decisions wrong like the free kick which they almost scored from in the first half but his major **** ups came when it was 1-1

I am shocked he got this fixture two years on the spin after what happened last year, that's certainly something to question...

Graham Poll thought it was a definite penalty against Terry.......

But Ferguson will blame the ref and not the players. But we got stuffed second half.

The fact that Utd should have had a penalty and Chelsea before the 2nd half "stuffing" (as you put it) being down to ten obviously escaped your notice, why does that not surprise me

edit: it's also easy to forget the torres disallowed goal but both players were fouling each other so in some games that would have been allowed...

I guess you missed the fact that the ball hadnt yet been kicked when the whistle had already gone - there wasnt any goal to be disallowed

Had Poll been the ref he'd have booked Luiz for all 3 of those challenges too, still wouldn't have sent him off though ;)

You might have a point there lol

True, however the players involved in the 'goal' played on and VDS motioned towards trying to save the shot before realising he was beaten.

Im not sure ALL of them did

edit - I idly wondered last night how many 0's disappeared off Abramovich's account in the last few days, so many inconsistant (or consistantly for the home side) decisions , thats the only way Chelsea could hope to win

Excellent in the first half........ Excellent, thats the word you would choose.

In the first half UTd had one shot on target, the goal, that came out of nothing, Chelsea had 4 shots on target in the first half. Utd only had 4 shots total in that "excellent" first half, 1 off target from the corner, one from Evra from further away than Rooney's goal and Nani had a blocked shot from outside the box aswell.

Excellent, not even remotely close, under seemingly little pressure from Chelsea for most of the half, one very very good chance for Malouda early that he passed to VDS, and then they had 3 shots on target just before half time. INbetween Chelsea were rubbish, but so were Utd, sure they got outside the box easily enough, it was a strange game. When your midfield had the ball Essien/Ramires/Lampard didn't get close to them, but you got to the final third and nothing, you had a single shot in 45 minutes that you dominated from inside the box, everything else was shooting from lack of options and there were only 4 shots total.

I'd call that anything but excellent, drab, poor, uncreative and not close to threatening.

In total including goals Utd had 9 shots in the game, 2 on target, and CHelsea had 20 shots, 7 on target.

This is why stats mean nothing, in the first half we got the ball in far more threatening positions than Chelsea and were unlucky not to score another goal e.g. on the two occasions the ball was put across the six yard box without getting a decisive touch or when Rooney missed that sitter of a header before he scored.

Trying to analyse a football match in terms of shots is just pointless, especially when on Sunday you still laid into Arsenal despite them having twice as many shots on target as Birmingham. You can't treat a stat differently every game to suit your agenda.

Because they had double figure chances, how many corners while we had Fletcher punting the ball off the pitch and oshea looking really bad.

Did no one see an attempt to sink us from carrick when his alleged backpass went straight to Chelsea.he did similar in the Cl vs themtoo.

and so did Scholes, so did Rooney occasionally - but I dont see you blaming them do you

Luiz is such a hack. Great player but should have been sent off.

Gave away a pen at fulham, and should have had a red in this game. Is this how they play in Portugal?

Not looking forward to Liverpool away on sunday. :(

It was funny last night listening to Ferguson moaning about 'off the ball' incidents after saying this about the one at the weekend

"There is nothing in it. But what will happen, because it is Wayne Rooney, the press will raise a campaign to get him hung by Tuesday or electrocuted or something like that. It is unbelievable."

I mentioned the Scholes one at the time, he has been a little unimpressive lately.

Rooney occasionally loses the ball upfield, but that's pretty much unavoidable, and is part of the game.

Exactly, Fergie will be spot on. Since Luiz didn't concede a foul for the follow through on Chicharito, the FA could take legitimate action if they wanted.
