Why?
A great deal of your squad is used to finishing in the Champions League spots. Not doubting that Kenny's come in and done a great job, but that's largely all he had to do - motivate the players after Hodgeson's tenure. The talent that did well in previous years for the most part was already there.
I had doubts as to whether Spurs could keep up their efforts of last season, and it appears they're faltering slightly at the end.
I think I predicted you'd have a top 6 finish, and as said above most people who thought you would finish mid table or lower were those overly loud and pessimistic Liverpool fans.
Edit - or hopeful United fans.![]()
Firstly, my post was in relation to where we were going under Hodgson not what the squad was capable of. I agree that the squad was capable of finishing where we are and had Dalglish got the job in the summer rather than Hodgson, we could have realistically challenged for a top 4 spot.
However, even if you look at what the squad was capable of and we agreed that it was capable of competing with Spurs etc; since Dalglish has taken over we've more than competed, we've closed a 11 point gap in 14 games.
As for your last point; Liverpool fans were adamant that our squad was far more capable than what we were achieving pre-Dalglish, it was others both in the press and on here that were coming out with nonsense about the squad only being capable of a midtable finish.
11 points behind Spurs and 17 points behind City. Getting to 6th should have been fairly easily achieved but considering the gulf in class there was meant to be between us and Spurs (and City), to close the gap on them is an excellent effort. In the end though, although Liverpool were in the bottom half at the beginning, there was only a few points in it. The table has been so close all season that a couple of wins was always going to put them higher up.
