Stalker 2

Oh please! Game is perfectly playable with some quirks/bugs. Pretty much exactly as was expected. What exactly are you struggling with?

The problem with this viewpoint is, how low do you allow the bar to go before deciding on what is/isn't acceptable. It's sold as a full release at full retail price for many. What starts out as minor bugs and annoyances in game releases quickly becomes major flaws and borderline game breaking issues. That's fine buying into a beta or a reduced price or both, not so much with what's on offer here currently. The more that buy into it and the more it's accepted, the lower the bar goes for future game releases.

**Insert "First time?" meme** You did play the original stalker right? By the originals standards this is fantastic. I guess my expectations were lower than yours. I knew what I was getting into and I'm pleasantly surprised so far. Only a few days from official release and only one major bug in 16.5 hours gameplay and some slight jankiness from a developer known for serious jankiness. I'll continue to enjoy my Stalker 2 experience and you can feel free to carry on whinging.

Are these white specs appearing all over the corners of the screen part of the game? Is it the radiation?

Never seen it before until this game...

Found it, radiation https://www.reddit.com/r/stalker/comments/1gw8lfs/does_anyone_knows_why_i_have_this_issue_grain/. Even though I've taken anti radiation stuff already

This is why I've started using Gamepass when I can. If a game's buggy or just plain sucks I don't have to feel like an idiot for buying it. Starfield was the last straw for me.

Played a bit some more:
- CB77 looks and performs better with path tracing than this... GI, shadows and reflections are a complete mess with some important, like shadows (ie: from your headlight), completely missing.
- voice acting from the originals are triple A compared to this, which seems rather indi. Positioning of different game assets, from a sound perspective, can also brake at times.
- economy/looting is still bad - ie: here's your 3 bullets from your enemy's gun and another 5 from his inventory + guns are are (almost) always broken/damaged!... which you can't see until you pick them up!
- animations are waaaay too slow!
- ai... also broken, bullet sponges at times.
- atmosphere is cool, a bit old school which is nice.

I really, really do hope they can fix the technical issues, not only performance, but also the GI, pop-in, noise on reflections and crappy shadows, etc. Fingers crossed for UE5.5 and hardware RT! :p

Just wrapped up another session for tonight, still loving the immersion (looks awesome on the OLED monitor with HDR on), some of the scenes at night , in the woods, with the moonlight shining through, look amazing. As some others have said, I switched to Ukranian voices and it makes a huge difference, not just in terms of atmosphere but in terms of dialogue delivery, pitch, tone and emotion within the voices. Been lucky enough not to hit any major technical issues yet and its running smoothly so hopefully that will continue as I play through.

It’s the kind of game made for an OLED.

That's just a realism mode, radiation does effect computers, it's so realistic it's breaking the fourth wall by making your computer unstable.

It's one of those cutscene crashes in the upcoming patch notes. Guy was about to talk about something to further the mission, he walked forward and crash

Having said a bunch of positive things, I'm now stuck at the **** (Wizards Sleeve) Heap and it CTDs nearly every time I load a save with an out of memory error. Might leave this one to bake a little longer :D

I played a bit more...

Guy was talking to me at the medic quarters, another NPC stood in the doorway. I couldn't get out

I fired this up a couple of nights ago, despite promising myself I'd wait for a patch or two. I've had 4 crashes in about 10 hours since, and the UI can be a bit dodge. I'm on M+K, the press vs hold nonsense is a pain, and seems to reconfigure itself on restarts.

I went through that early sphere mission like a hot knife through butter. Hitting and moving, dodging grenades, sniping and rushing, stealthy and run-n-gun.
I died a few times, to soldiers and some pita invisible entity. It was brilliant. Except for the spongey dogs, and those stupid rats - don't they know I'm low on ammo? Bloody mutants.

The AI needs work, its not perfect and its not consistent, but I'm sure they can get this sorted. Stability is another thing, I imagine that's their priority.

Have fun with the beta, worth the wait I'm sure.
