Stalker 2

If you say so, but the original was well reviewed, and this is getting trashed. Seems to suggest otherwise.

Oh come on, do you think we can’t read, or are suffering from amnesia? While the original had generally positive reviews, it was released in a buggy mess with performance issues. Even the wiki mentions this.

“S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl received generally positive reviews, with critics praising the game for its style and depth while criticising technical issues, mentioning the number of bugs present.”

It took the modding scene to fix the worst of the bugs and make the a-life system useable.

This latest version is also getting generally favourable reviews and was released with a lot of bugs and technical issues. By all means you are entitled to an opinion, but please don’t try to insult us with some revisionist history that the original STALKER was perfect on release. I remembered a lot of bugs and performance problems, some of them were so bad you couldn’t complete key quests.

It’s a close to a case of Deja vu as you will ever get in PC gaming.

Just stopped after, most likely, my GPU ran out of memory. But the odd thing was that it took about two hours for it to happen.
Granted, I wasn't at somewhere especially intensive such as Zalissya, but I was frequently engaging mutants, bandits, and the military.
Oh, and for the whole time I was running on epic settings, which doesn't make sense.

Still, I'm not complaining! I had my best session so far. Loved every minute of it.

Camp Icarus is bit of a mess..

It's the only place I've seen this happen.

I am really enjoying it. Played a few hours so far and the game feels refreshing. Yes it requires some fixes, I had a crash to desktop. But glad to be playing it now. Will likely replay in 2 years time when it is all fixed up anyway :)

Let's just say well worth my £25 :D

And yet there will always be that one person who claims that their experience has been completely bug-free. Suuuure

So been playing on the gamepass version and it's been running like crap with horrible stutters. Tried all the performance mods which helped a bit but was still pretty bad.

Then remembered in the past there's been a couple of games where the Gamepass versions ran worse than Steam versions, think it was Control or Quantum Break, usually Remedy Games.

So bought a steam version from CDkeys and tried it... It's sooooo much smoother and that's even before I've added any performance/stutter mods. You still get frame rate drops and frame spikes but they don't feel as jarring. On the gamepass version just turning the camera most of the time would produce horrible stutters, almost like Gsync isn't working correctly. Wouldn't be surprised if it's to do with the weird permissions thing on gamepass game folders.

Some users reporting the hair graphics option is broken causing a lot of the lower frame rates/stutters in towns

The Steam version being much better performance is a known thing. I got mine for £32 a few weeks before release. I be fair the Steam version runs perfectly fine and the gameplay is overly good so far.

Some bugs with spawning have finally manifested for me but I found once you moved away from the “spawn” point it settled down.

Still holding out hope for bug fixes a the a-life and the key binds.

What's the general opinion of the v/o? I've tried* to avoid watching any gameplay vids (waiting for fixes before buying), but from the couple I've seen, it sounds a bit "off". I played the original in 2007 and remember the accents being primarily Russian / Ukrainian. Is that the case with the sequel?

Depends on the language you select.

My opinion of the v/o is ,

In English , rather hit or miss, erring more on the miss.

In Ukranian, superb.

Loved the sphere mission last night. The storm on approach, the way it ends, it’s all just so atmospheric. Enjoying the choices in the game too and little surprises they can have in the world.
