So Tools is an item needed to make updates, is it just a mission like the mission of finding an artifact for Beard? (This is the first and only mission I did)

it's a box of tools basically, you need basic for the first set of upgrades (only need to get them once) then fine for the second level, then calibration for the final tier.
once you have the mission just ask around and some stalker will tell you where you mgiht find them.
The upgrades are definitly worth it, letting you attach silencers and stuff to assault rifles.
As for weapons money really isn't an issue so experiment with different ones and different upgrades
Does it limit how many upgrades you can do? Looking at it seems different upgrades target the same spot so i assume you'd only be able to do 1 tree to get a different style of gun in the end.

The level 2 and 3 upgrades you can only pick one.
I'm liking the game so far! Finding it a lot of fun and it's much better than the original Stalker which I didn't really like all the much.

Big STALKER fan here. Just got one question; why are my footsteps and gunshots so quiet? On SHoC and CS they were fine, on CoP they're really quiet for some reason.
I've tried turning EAX on/off and hardware/software around to no avail, anyone care to help?

really? I find mine fairly loud but quieter thane everyone else's.
Are you walking/crouching?
Because they've added sound as a major detector/alert thing now I think they had to make them a bit quieter.
Also just in case you didn't know if you are stealthing up to somewhere and walk through a bush/tree you'll rustle the leaves and make a loud noise
Ah i see. So you can upgrade as many trees as you want, but only 1 per 'tier' on the same tree?

No just normal running/walking and that's what's puzzling me. I've just re-0installed too and i'm getting the same thing. When I crouch the steps are barley audible.

Ie. if you're upgrading for ROf and recoil reduction then some trees that have flatness +accuracy/reliability mainly arn't a good idea, as in the description it will say "increased pressure improves flatness but increases recoil" but it will only say "+30% flatness etc in the stats it won't mention the recoil boost, so best to read them.

vastly improves the ground textures.
It's a clear sky mod but it works in CoP
I'm running that + the atmosfear mod

Which makes blowouts look amazing
Also it makes it so that on a clear day you can see for miles (no annoying fog of war)
But thunder storms are awesome with it on

I can't believe how much i'm enjoying this! I've literally spent the last 5 or so hours just doing the story related missions and occasionally wondering off to explore nearby buildings. I though this might be a let down like Clear Sky was but boy was I wrong. I'd say from what i've seen so far it's on par with Shadow Of Chernobyl and it runs wayyyyyy smoother than the first two games.
Really want to get this, been a big STALKER fan, but sadly the previous games ran like crap on my machine, somehow I doubt this game will be any different
