edit: after reading through 300+ replies here, the only thing i got out of it was a) 2.3 is more polished and deeper than 2.4 b) that it could be caused by the float32 files, hence why (for some reason) I've got it to work. :( I have managed to replicate the crash and it seems to happen regardless of difficulty or the reply you choose.

i dont think its anything to do with float32 for me since i had the problem before,

Emailing the makers atm. :D I'll see where it goes. the only thing i can think of is that we are all running 1.0005 (afaik), which could be the problem as it is designed for 1.0004.

edit: Faiakes confirms that the 1.0005 patch does cause it.

Thanks for your help! I'm intrigued by the changes in Faiakes so I may have to make the effort to uninstall and then reinstall the game again.

The gamedata folder doesnt exist on mine so I just copied my new gamedata folder from the sharper mod straight in to C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl. I assume thats correct?
 
I urge you guys to try the ABC AMK and SRP compilation mod (AKA SIMBION). I've tried Faikes, Alive and pretty much everything else but the Simbion mod makes the game totally unscripted (except for required scripts on main storyline) and has the factions battling and all kinds of things. You never know what you are going to see. basically, it's pretty much what the developers promised the game would be in the first place.

Install all of the above, then put -nointro in your stalker shortcut.

In the gamedata config folder delete the localization.ltx file.

I think that just about covers it.

The mod is for the 1.004 patch. Do not install 1.005 patch!


If you would like the mod combined with some new tasty textures, the following file extracts to 900MB and includes the Simbion mod with Fix 8 already applied plus new textures. Again, only for patch 1.004.

You may have an occasional CTD but it's well worth persevering. This mod truly brings out the potential of Stalker. PS. If you use the second file which includes new textures, you don't need to faff around with the shortcut and deleting the localisation file. Just fire it up and play!

Yes that's the core mod version 3.0rc2. The small patch will update that to version 3.0rc3. And then there's the latest fix to apply.

Incidentally, the makers of the AMK mod which is one of the components of the compilation, have figured out a way to make Stalkers loot dead bodies.
That's in the latest version of AMK mod (maybe 1.4?) that they're beta testing at the moment. Don't look AMK version 1.4 because you won't find it yet. The last version of AMK publicly available is 1.3.1.

Stick with the ABC AMK SRP compilation. There's a lot of guys using it on those forums and you can pick their brains if you have any probs.

PS: And don't forget to change the top line of the fsgame.ltx file to 'true'. But you probably already knew that.

Is the mod not all Russian?
 
The mod isn't ALL in Russian. But there are features that we English speaking types won't understand how to use as it's in Russian. The game is very playable despite the language barrier.
