standby - who uses it?

Everything is on so that when I sit down to use it there is no wait. Especially the PC.

Never, dont see the point, it takes less than a minute to boot up. Its not like i am in a hurry when i come home.

Not on my PC because it will fail to reboot. I have a dodgy motherboard bios.

Never, dont see the point, it takes less than a minute to boot up. Its not like i am in a hurry when i come home.

It leaves everything exactly the way it was, all your programs running etc Any windows you have open, usefull because it saves the effort of shutting all the apps down and opening them up again if your working on something. It also allows your tv card to power on your pc if something is scheduled to record.

I love the way the hard drive stops so I can carry it around, and boot it up in <5 secs

Well, apart from a dodgy Maxtor drive, I haven't had any hardware fail in either of my G5 towers (they've been powered up 24/7 since brand new).

Server hardware generally lasts longer as it's on 24/7 and rarely rebooted.
