I dont see why not - there are quite a few people who have been enjoying the game and have never been that into Star Trek.

where do i find out how many hours i have done
I am not really a Star Trek fan (did like the last movie though) and I quite enjoy it. The space combat is fun and the ground combat is more enjoyable than it was...
Quite a casual MMO though so don't expect a huge amount of depth.
Does the class that I choose (tac, eng, science) have any effect on overall playability in regards to ships I can get etc?
Only reached 5th lieutenant but I dont really see any differences betweeen tactical and engineering except for some slightly different ground abilities

Tactical tend to have more destructive abilities
Engineering can buff themself for survivability etc
Science is the equivalent of a Mage class and has best team abilities
Escort is a Tactical ship
Cruiser is a Engineering ship
Whatever science is is science ship
But you don't have to stick to the ship class your supposed to and can buy others

Urgh purchased this about 12 hours ago and my transaction is still pendingBloody annoying, I can't even preload it!

It impacts what abilities you get and also what special skills you can train to your bridge officers. So a tactical captain will be able to have slightly better tactical officers. You can fly any vessel but they do have a "best fit" as described above. Though I did quite enjoy Engineer in an Escort as you had the damage of the escort with a bit of extra survivability of the Engineer.
Level 8 is when you get your first different space based skill. For engineers it is a very nice shield buff, for Tactical it is a very nice damage buff.

Server down again?
Pretty nice man although a bit rough round the edges at the moment. I believe the demo is an old engine build so isn't a good representation of the final game. It seems they've been loyal to the previous titles so looks promising.

Dont know it doesnt report its down but I cant connect at all
If I use default settings (no proxy) I get stuck in a loop of connecting>verifying username>connecting>retrieving character>disconnect
If I use the EU proxy settings (which I have had to do since headstart but not before
) the connection to login server just times out all the timebit cheesed off to be honest though its not life important I hate not being able to do the things I wish when I wish too
