Star Trek Online

Patrols? If so i have managed to avoid them so far and played for 2 weeks or so to get from ensign to captain 35 so its possible to avoid em. With a mix of borg invasions and normal missions and duty officer assignments.

I sodding hate planet side missions where you are suppose to go find stuff

Your tricoder scan (little kind of triangle of horizontal lines beside your minimap) will point you towards the nearest object of interest. This might be a resource node if there's one on the map, but most of the time it will point you towards the next object you have to find on a ground based patrol mission.

If it is a resource node, just harvest it so that you're only picking up the mission objects on the next scan.

You need :

A tactical bridge officer that has an attack pattern skill
A tactical bridge station that is of high enough level to let them use it (ie a commander level station for commander level skills)
If you have that the skill should appear in your skills list to drag to the quickbar once you assign the tactical officer to the tactical station.

As a science captain with a science ship you probably won't ever have access to much in the way of attack patterns, since they generally have only a lieutenant level tactical bridge station, and you don't start to see the attack pattern skills (I think) until lt commander and commander level.

What you could do is get yourself an escort, which has higher level tactical stations, but of course you loose access to a lot of your BO science skills, since escorts have only low level science stations in general.

Hope that all makes sense :) It's a bit involved, but means you can mix captain types with ship types to get exactly the mix of skills you want.

Finally got a ship capable of subsystem targeting but haven't tried it out yet. Is subsystem targeting actually worth doing? If I pound away at a mob while targetting weapons will it make much of a difference to his damage output?

Thanks Sleepery.
However, cannot see point in fleet bank. have lots to deposit but only access to first level even though i have items worth depositing.:(
cannot draw from other levels which match/exceed my rank... so seems pointless....

Occasionally you'll get Target Subsystem: Shields knock shields offline completely for a few seconds, that's the only one I keep hotkeyed.

Delbert.. when I get home, let me check your access to the banks.. it might be because you're on one of the lower fleet ranks at the moment.

How do I install this game? I downloaded some files overnight but when I go to the game folder, the is no setup exe to start installing the game to the hard drive.

It seems to me that the game is has not downloaded completly, how can I finish the download them? Everytime I start the launcher is begins from 0%.

And the launcher looks like it's been made by a first time programmer. Looks totally unprofessional. Got bad feelings about this game already...

unless your a fan of star trek, or really like the idea of space combat then dont bother if im honest.

if your still intrested, make sure you have your settings correct, fire up the launcher and click options just pick the proxy that most suits you and make sure the on-demand patching is un-ticked (unless your on a really slow connection)

the launcher is more professional than most other games, still crappy but not that bad.

Also you can launch any of cryptics games from the same launcher (CO,all test servers)

I have been playing TOR non stop since launch but the rejuvenation of this thread has got my curious about STO again. Think i have got 2 fully kitted out Admirals (one engi and other tactical) but it was about 9 months ago since i last played so they're probably outdated i guess.

Think i'll mosey back on and have a look around. Yikes! 3gb worth of patches!!

Ok sound.

Btw i should say that i have reached rear admiral lower half last night so not captain anymore but still can play in the defiant but my skills may be a little better now than when i was captain a few days ago.
