Star Trek Online

PvP itself is better and more fun but one possible draw back. All PvP is arena based although different types of arenas. So no out numbering the enemy 5 ships to 1 like Eve. No loss in ships or equipment but on the plus side, ship fight action is way better then Eve.

I so much want to like Eve, but I tried enough & it never happened. So in my eyes EvE is a game of great ideas, horrid implementation.

well yesterday marked the beginning of the end for STO.

Perfect world ent. are a bunch of ****'s there philosophy is pay to win.

anyone actually enjoy anything Cryptic/PWE has done over the last year?

sad to see because out of all the dribble that's out ATM this is one of them games that could have almost unlimited potential but they just ****ed it all up the wall

Did I miss something?

What are these actually used for? worth keeping hold of for crafting or anything? or should i just sell them?

you can craft some stuff, but to be honest it's hardly worth your time unless its somthing you REALLY want. i got max crafting so if u ever need anything just supply what mats i aint got and let me know

yep, PWE acquired STO, through cryptic and atari in Q4 of of 2011.

PWE are owners of the greediest cash shop games going about, and now they got there hands on STO it's only gunna get worse

90% of content will be through lotto boxes from cash shop, we will get 2-3 featured episode weeks per year lol?

and if you wanna know anything else ill be free to answer

Once you get to the top end stuff, there are some nice Mk XI purple items that you can craft.. however you do also need Dilithium as well as the materials. Borticus (J-Man from STOked), is overseeing incorporating crafting into the Doff system and having it be more useable and flexible.

Slightly wrong there.. the intimation was that they hope to have 2 or 3 Featured Series.. not episodes. Much like the Breen, Reman, and Davidian series, these featured series would have several episodes each. We already know that the DS9 based one is probably slated for around March time.

You are aware that you don't have to buy the grab bags right?

Not wrong at all i did say "we will get 2-3 featured episode weeks per year" maybe 4 if D'Angelo thinks he can keep good on more lies

and yes I'm aware that no one has to buy them. but unless you have seen or played any other PWE games then you don't even have a clue of how bad it will get. just trying to warn people.

Hows all the newbies getting along? a couple of fleet admirals are around (myself and anon etc)

I take it you can add a free to play char to an account or do you need to set up a new account too?

mine is all paid up lol

I thought I would have to pay to transfer my characters to the free account, but everything just worked. Will try to start getting on a little more. Seems like there is a lot more to do now, and I still have my aegis gear :)

It's not like that at all at the moment though, everything in the cash shop is pretty much cosmetic. Remains to see if it will stay that way, but I think the amateur dramatics are a bit premature.

Yep, and based on this I don't get how the cryptic f2p games make enough money tbh. Champions online benefitted a lot from f2p though, so I can only assume this will too.

well we shall see what you have to say about it once pay to win arrives over the next 6-12 months, good luck with that - i suggest if you think the "amateur dramatics" are premature that you go and play some other PWE games. unless you got some insider info that STO will be exempt from PWE's successful business practice that earns them one of the highest profits in the gaming industry?

simple really, fans of star trek love the franchise and will simply dump £/$100's into items they will never own, same with almost every other cash shop game that takes this format.

£4 = 500 Cryptic points (soon to be Zen,when the rates will change and it will be a bit more expensive)

I'll give one example: 580 C points for 100 duty officer slots with a total of being able to get 400 max per character NOT ACCOUNT (3 purchases of 580, you start with 100)

over 15 quid for something that is not terribly needed, but helps to speed things up (pay to win, although its not that harsh yet) and adds a little more fun to the game.

go check the store, then check what people have ships, costumes, character slots the list is endless.

the biggest of these was the winter package (lotto box) over the xmas period they made a fortune on that with a 0.58% chance to get the top prize.

BTW just to inform people who don't know what PWE are like. the lotto boxes are there signature item in cash shops all there games have them and they get around 1-3 every month.

asian server players, some of them drop over $1000 a week on forsaken world jsut to keep up with the stats for there pvp so they can have "fun" extreme i know but some people just want to ignore facts and then once it all comes out they are normally the first to come to the forums and cry that its all gone horribly wrong.

and before you ask yes i do play STO.

I really wish I had kept my lifetime sub for this. It is one of the few games I find myself going back to, or at least wanting to when I get the time! Had some great times playing this with the ocuk fleet.

Finally got my promotion to Captain and went with the Defiant in the end. Rather glad I did, this thing is unbelievable! Fast, maneouverable, powerful. All right, so I used the Cryptic points I'd amassed to get the Sao Paolo version (I still have the free ship token as a result, might use it to try a Science vessel out) and I have to say that the current loadout I've got is nifty:

Phaser Quad Cannons, Phaser Dual Cannons, Phaser Beam Array, Quantum Torpedo Launcher are the fore weapons; Phaser Beam Array and Phaser Cannon Turret are the rear. Combined with Cannon Rapid Fire II and Torpedo High Yield I, this makes for some rather quick-dying opponents. :D

Just noticed this has gone F2P. Went to the site and bugger me my account from Beta still exists!

If it gets added to steam and I can find the time away from SDGO then I may have to fire this up! I'll be able to don my 'Wrath of Khan Admiral's Uniform' too. :D

JHeaton whats ur ingame handle, do u fancy a pvp match just to test our new defiants out as im a recent cpt and got a defiant and wouldnt mind testing it with another new cpt with a defiant although u have the cstore one and i dont but still should be interesting.
