Star Trek Online

And how many lifer's are there?

You do still need to goto Memory Alpha to craft. Although you can find out what you need before you go there now. My main toon can craft anything.

IIRC referrals, get you a title, the holographic tribble, and if you get enough the Future Enterprise (also available on C-Store).. But that ship is not worth it in my opinion, it steers like a brick and has carp BO slots, and dodgy console slots.

It also looks horrible imo. Servers down :(

Still tempted to give this another go. Is any better and are there many people playing? I really enjoyed the space combat side of things and upgrading my ship etc

Quite a few of us here have returned and are enjoying it. Lots added such as new missions, diplomacy, abilities, ship tiers etc. I was expecting to hate it, but have actually really enjoyed levelling a new alt. Think we have about 12 active members in the fleet. A few are my old clan mates who have wanted to try the content - a few here have resubbed for a month.

Ablative armour on the intrepid looks awesome :D

Really enjoyed yesterday's new Devidian episode. Was great to see everyone in Drozana Station (which also looks really cool, especially when weird things keep happening!). Felt much more MMO like - then I won 15000 on Dabo :p

You guys really need to come back for the new episode arcs!

What is it with the different episodes? Not sure what's meant by this.

I gave in to temptation and re-subbed. In general the game feel a lot more polished and smooth than it did before. Haven't lost my touch though. Done starbase 24 mission I think it is. Only a few of us but within seconds they were all dead off mass pulls. I survived (as they all bar one died another two times) holding off two battlecruisers and about 7-8 birds of prey. Was using my shield regen, all powerto shields and was constantly remodifying them to stay alive. The other people in the open instance couldn't beleive ihad kept myself alive :D

in Belfast for a few days now but will give the fleetashoit when im back.

Great to see so many of us have returned. Will be on again one evening this week (and certainly on the weekend). The new episodes can be found in the Eta Eridani and the Orellius sector blocks - if you haven't tried them already, you might want to head there soon :)

The current batch of episodes are doable by anyone of Lieutenant Grade 6 or higher. The Defra episodes are doable by Lieutenant Grade 10 (Lieutenant Commander 1).

The end of series reward for Defra was a Very Rare Breen Tactical Officer, which you can no longer get (although it may appear in the C-Store later).

So far there has only been 2 episodes in the current Devidian episodes, with the next episode appearing on Saturday.

The next question is, what will the final reward be for the Devidian episodes? So far we have had a ship device with brief defensive resistance and a ghostbusters style ground weapon. Apparently there is a time travelling mission coming up? I really hope we get some good action soon since not much has happened so far. Do the devidians have ships? Will certainly be logging on this weekend (and hopefully sooner).

At first I didnt like the Defiant - but it was because I couldnt get the right layout with my BOs (I basically hadn't assinged them corrently). I now have my awesome rapidfire/everything facing forward build - works like a charm and I have started playing my main again :D. Just wish Cryptic hadn't stolen all of my purple MkX items :(

The Refit Defiant does :D

I still have to respec my BO's a bit as I have Cannons:Rapid Fire 1, 2 and 3 on the same BO.

Loving the refit defiant. 3 Tactical slots, 1 science, 1 engineer :) -

Front -
2x Quantums
2x Dual Heavy Cannons

Rear -
3x Turret

1 science BO with 2 lots of science team (supported by consoles and deflector dish)
1 engineer with Emergency shields and weapon damage into shields
3 tactical officers with lots of high yield torpedos, cannon rapid fire etc

Have also respec'd to fit these abilites. Have now increased the difficulty to advanced and still finding it very easy, so seems good so far.

Wondering if we should combine some of the level VI/VII bank tabs to make more room for MkX and MkXI endgame gear? Shame we can't buy more :(

Annoying when that happens - although at least there was warning of it on the launcher. I remember it happening in Champions Online after a long mission - just a minute after the "10 minute" warning the server went down. Cryptic said it was a "server crash", but it was hard to believe. Hopefully this is for the new episode tomorrow.

Edit:

General

* Deep space encounters with the Hirogen in the Psi Velorum sector block were leading to encounters with the Terran Empire instead. This should now be fixed. (The Terran Empire is no longer sending disguised ambushes into Romulan space.)
* Groups of Undine no longer tend to stand in a straight line.
* The Synchronic Proton Distortion Rifle now has a more appropriate icon.
* Fixed a bug that caused mouselook to get stuck on forever when leaving/entering the gameplay state with both mouse buttons held.
* The sprint animation has been updated.

Ships

* Blinking navigation lights have been added to Sovereign class ships.
* Blinking navigation lights have been added to the Nebula.
* The floating node issues have been fixed on the vorcha C-store variant.
* Typos have been fixed in customization for the Vor’cha.
* The size of the Vor’cha’s shields has been fixed.

Missions

* By Any Means: The mission tracker now properly directs you to Station Alpha instead of Beta.
* The USS Nobel is now the correct Olympic-class ship in the Cirini Prime system.
* Devidian Weekly Episode 2: Spin the Wheel
o Belan is no longer quite as ornery before asking the player to fix replicators.
* The surface of Hotep IV is now a little more refined. Of note, there is no longer a pit to get stuck in.
* Textures on certain buildings on the surface of Defera now show textures at all distances.

UI

* The icon for Photonic Officer is now properly red if you’re part of the Klingon Empire.
* The icons for the various Marks have been adjusted. They now contrast more with their backgrounds.
* The chat window no longer minimizes when resizing it using the upper right corner.
* Master Loot UI works properly once again.

I stopped playing this time around bos I kept crashing on ground missions. I could forgive the fact that most missions were move from group to group of bad guys and kill them all in turn, but not when I had to do it over and over because of crashes :(

Turn Dynamic lighting off. Fixed all of my ground combat crashes (and has for lots of others).

STO any good?

I ain't played it at all. I wanted to buy it at release but coupled with the high price at the time, I didn't like the reviews it was getting.

It is a lot better than it was at release. Email me in trust if you want a demo key (although the demo is VERY short) - but if you do decide to buy at least you have it all downloaded ready. I think the game can be picked up for around £15 now - not bad for a months "free" play and not a huge amount lost if you don't like it. Plus, season 3 is on the way soon (can't find details of it atm - will post when I do).

Personally I thought it sucked at release. It was fun on a pretty basic level but quickly got boring. Re-subbed this month and really enjoying it. Seems a lot more polished and I have in general found it a lot more engaging and fun. Away missions aren't my favourites but love space combat especially fleet missions where I can get stuck in and survive using all my shield mods. Bit more intricate when you get into it with different power set ups and the like.

@ those who are playing now. When can I choose my own ship, forgot what rank it is

Lt 11 i.e. LtCmdr 1 i.e. 6,700 skill points spent (so level 11 I guess)

What ship type you going for?

Yep, that would be the Cruiser :)

Escort for tactical and well, Science for science.

I would suggest you try all three ship types (energy credits are easy to come by and there is nothing else to spend them on) - you don't have to stay in the "set ship". Actually, some builds work well outside the designed ship e.g. an escort will survive longer with an Engineer captain, but will still give more of a punch than a cruiser. Of course, I have been out of the loop for a while, so things may have changed!

I don't get why this game hasn't had any updated reviews. It is much better now. I remember GameSpy_Ryan telling me -
"This may come as a surprise, but we reviewed the game as it actually exists -- not based on nonexistent content that may one day be patched in. Seriously, I don't get all the MMO apologists who defend bad launches and poorly plotted leveling flow. The "we'll patch it in later" school of design has been prevalent since the early days of MMOs, and genre enthusiasts are so beaten down that they just accept it because that's the way it's always been. This is not a good practice, and people need to expect more from their games."

Then why not post an updated review later on? Of course, I always enjoyed that comment coming from the people who gave:

AoC: 4 Stars - "GREAT!!"
Warhammer Online: 5 Stars - "OUTSTANDING!!!"
Tabula Rasa: 4 Stars - "GREAT!!!!"

I really need to finish levelling my cruiser/engineer captain. I think she is at 43, but I find levelling her so boring - but I would like to try out the retrofit cruiser. Will have to leave her idle in some Borg Deep Space Encounters. Saying that, I must have about 50 missions on here left to do.

Sweet!

How do I get my hands on that bad boy?

On another note was there nit rumblings of there eventually being more playable factions?Cardassians and Romulans i think.

Wouldn't mind a pop at the Dominium as well! :D

The Defiant is a tier 4 escort (your starting ship is tier 1). There is also a vice admiral retrofit with a cloaking device, additional BO and weapon slots.

It was put to a vote and the Romulans came out ahead if I remember correctly. If there is a new faction added, the devs have said it will be the romulans.
