I still think its ok.

But have to say I find alternative universe and/or time travel storylines very tedious. It gets a bit like Inception. A fictional character playing another fictional character.

Its like you turn up to see Pink Floyd and find the show is them doing Beatle covers.

I'm actually a bit lost after the last episode. The Soong part and how he and his daughter link back to Picard's future, are they meant to be great ancestors with incredibly strong genes? I guess Season 1s events just evade me as it wasn't great. That or they get plucked from the "now" and into the future and that's part of this divergence? I'm also confused why this "watcher" that looks like Picard's future Romulan love interest but isn't.

Is Q gathering a human Ark? Do they end up as Borg fodder? Or the foundation of the Borg?

We really didn't need the Hispanic man from future ends up in a free clinic for illegal immigrants part of the story. What kind of social commentary is that? I feel like that was just wasted time.

Now we've got the Borg Queen in Jurattis head like
Number 6 in Gaius Baltars mind (Battlestar). Hopefully she also doesn't lead to a holocaust too (or does, make the story more interesting). The Borg queen is the most interesting part of this series and her scenes have been brilliant.

I also noticed Lea Thompson i in the credits as part of the production (and was in the last episode). Keeping it in the time travel family I guess.

arresting illegal immigrants is bad, they should have had an episode where he hangs around in a wallmart carpark looking for work, gets chosen but the person then refuses to pay him and instead phones ICE

This season so far could have been condensed down to 2 episodes. The only bit keeping me hooked is the Borg queen thread and even that is bound to be resolved in 10 minutes “because”.

39 minutes, and they struggled to stretch it that far.

Episode 7 next week and still it's been a decent first episode, a weaker second episode, then several helpings of "meh". Does this whole armed border patrol nazis targeting hispanics have anything to do with the actual story, or is it just a wee bit of shoehorned in commentary on modern issues ?

I say the first episode was good but even that had its moments of herpity derpness, hmm a portal has opened in space with a distinctly green tinge to it and multiple voices speaking as one want to talk to picard, whoever could this be? Even seven has no friggin clue, meanwhile stevie wonder is in the corner calling bull****.

Guinan is all uppity about wealth and privelage whilst 130 years earlier she's wining and dining with Mark Twain and the cream of society. Do the writers of this even remember those episodes of tng? Still no explanation about how she doesn't know picard despite meeting him back then.

Still nothing about Q's "illness" which would be far more interesting than seeing border patrol raids.

Remember when shows had actual running lengths, these days they vary up to and over 10 minutes week in week out.

There is one good thing about this show. It is making me look forward to June when The Orville is back. Hopefully then we will see some good sci fi and not the constant message, terrible writing and dreadful acting. Star Trek TNG and The Orville have a warmth to them. This is bleak, cold and pretending to be something it is not.

I don't think that's a fair criticism, we all clearly enjoyed TNG ds9 voyager etc

Are we wrong to expect these characters and stories to be as good as those and fit in with them?

I don't watch discovery because it's terrible, but fair enough if other people like it, but there is established stuff here that people love they are using as starting point and then making something rubbish from it - it's very disappointing
