Star Trek: Picard

I still think this season is as awful as the rest. Geriatric stuttering old man Picard is hard to stomach, the sets are dsytopian dark and evil which is like the opposite of what ST is meant to be about. (mind you this was a downfall of the TNG movies after Generations)

The story is just all over the place, where the main characters just seem to be impervious to fear and death unlike anyone else who happens to fall in their wake.

It's rubbish.

Deffo in the minority there - some of the best Trek i've seen.

I don't think it's great, but it's good enough

Picard doesn't do much
Jack story is annoying
Some dodgy bits that don't make much sense
But it's soooooooo much better than S1 and 2 that I don't care

Watched a load of TNG yesterday. Patrick Stewart is an absolute beast as Picard. His acting is amazing, although sometimes undermined by the silly / goofy plots.

The episode where Data is on trial as to whether he’s a life form is great. The first Sherlock Holmes episode, fun. The second Sherlock Holmes episode… blergh :o :p

Yep, it really is.

On the 'courtroom' episodes - I know it's not very well-regarded, and it was never meant to be a TNG episode (the story was pitched for Star Trek Phase II before that series was canned in favour of the first film), but I love Patrick's work in "Devil's Due" - once Picard had gained the upper hand against Ardra he was clearly having enormous fun playing the captain on that filming day :)

Of course, the best TNG courtroom one is "The Drumhead":

I’ll have to check that one out, I can’t remember it off hand :)

Another great one is Picard’s speech to Wesley about ‘his duty to the truth’ when he suspects ‘foul play’ after a death at the training academy. The episode is ‘the first duty’ I believe.

One of my favourite Picard moments was when he gives Riker a full on bollocking In The Pegasus. Up until this point you'd never even seen a fag paper come between Picard and Riker on 7 seasons and the dressing down he gives Riker makes the hairs stand up. There's also the "mock" bollocking he gives Sito Jaxa in Lower Dekcs. Imagine being bollocked for real by Patrick Stewart, you'd never recover I bet.

Seems there are spoiler images leaking from Episode 9 & 10 floating about, be careful if like me you go reading threads elsewhere.

That's it though, it's only accolade is being a step up from the bottom. Soo much better than some of the worse series of Star Trek we've ever had in Disco and S1/2 of Picard.

I think SNW was good, it's story is much more coherent and the lead actor carries it massively.

I'm surprised that more of the cast from Deep Space 9 havent made an appearance. We've had 7 of 9 and Tuvok from Voyager, thought we might at least see Kira, a Dax, Bashir, O'Brien or Sisko have a cameo appearance.

Heres this scene i was talking about, just comes off as odd. Never realised there are some Tie Fighter blaster sfx in the scene as well. :D

I know ILM worked on a lot 9f the movie VFX so in all likelihood Skywalker sound took care of that part and they snuck in some SW effects.

According to imdb the optical effects were handled by some rinky dink company in new york, there's a couple of stories on why this happened, 1 being imdb were apparently too busy with ghostbusters 2, and tee other being one of the producers thought ILM were taking advantage of the franchise and charging too much so they shopped around and got some random place in New York to do them.

As a kid i thought they looked ok, but looking back they were ropey to say the least.

Relative to season 1 and 2 yes, for sure. But I do agree with some of this points. But calling it rubbish is going too far.

For me it is good and what it should have been from the start. Still does not compare to TNG for me though.

That was good episode, part of growing up is how to take a good bollocking.
