Star Trek : Strange New Worlds

Anyone notice on the bridge the new bloke that looks like some random utuber with millions of followers that looks a bit girly?

Yes, the scene at the end where they are cheering, it was like he had edited himself into the scene for a 'bit' - seemed totally out of place. He also looked and sounded like Ray Romano.

Uhura - still rubbish.

Ortegas - still rubbish and was even more annoying this week. Too familiar with the captain and questioned his judgement a couple of times, get back in your box helmsman!

Security officer - why are we focusing on her so much every episode? I want to see No1 and Pike. No 1 was resigned yet again to a side story.

Minor whinges - thought this was another great episode!

1, 4, 3, 2 for me in the episode rankings so far :)

The YouTuber reminds me of Flash Thompson and I don't like him.

Ortega I completely agree. She's getting a lot of screentime but then so did Paris back in Voyager.

Another excellent episode. Real TOS and TNG vibes. I wonder if they can keep up the quality, but I'm hopeful. How can they come up with this when many of the same people are regurgitating stuff like Discovery and Picard?

watched the original gorn tos ep the other day and that ship looks just like the one kirk and co seen on the view screen at max magnification :)

nothing like a gorn from starfleet command one or 2 games but seems true to the original :)

im really liking this so far, seems the most startrek like official show i have seen since voyager, lower decks is good to and im itching for new orville :)

Billy Whizz the helm operator, is very annoying in this week's episode, with borderline insubordination and scissoring. She or whatever pronoun applies, should be mopping the floor with that attitude. The English woman makes everything she says seem so dull and uninteresting. Her charisma vacuum has me tuning out and looking for something else to do while she's on screen. It is very boring and I am struggling to keep watching. I keep tuning out, it just feels so generic and I have seen all before and done much better. It reminded me a little of Disaster in TNG but not as well executed.

I'm not sure who this programme is aimed at. Not being sexist here but most women I know, do not really like sci fi. They would prefer a drama or soap, a nice Rom Com or heaven forfend, that terrible "programme" called Gogglebox. Not usually sci fi, so why make it such a female centric show with only some minor roles for males?

The CGI was very nice though.

Dont forget he was racist as heck to spock but spock always got the last word in. He never really hated him he was just so annoyed by his attitude. And im sure spock felt the same to a degree.

The thing about McCoy's 'racism' towards Spock was that he saw Spock's rejection of his human half as being a form of internalised racism and felt that he needed to hang a lampshade on it. Spock saw McCoy's overt emotionalism as unbecoming for a man of science and felt that he needed to hang a lampshade on that. As a result, Kirk got the best of both worlds in his chief advisors - pure logic from Spock, unfettered emotion from McCoy.

Interestingly, when ST: Phase II was in the works (before getting canned and TMP being made instead) the replacement for Spock - Nimoy had enough beef with Gene and the studio that he wasn't coming back - was going to be a younger full Vulcan called Xon. The plan was that Xon would from time to time experience prejudice from crew members - even Kirk - for not being Spock and McCoy would be the one defending him.

Good episode this week if you overlook the little inconsistencies... I guess you can't follow real life physics in an action show, but the enterprise would be about 50yrs older if we followed classical physics in this week's adventure.
Not to mention they couldn't get home on impulse.

Like this new star trek.
Like some of the cast.

Uhuru is a bit annoying but not too bad
Number 1 is a bit weak. Keeps getting side lined?
Ortegas seems a bit.. Annoying too.

But none of these are as annoying as Micheal in discovery.
Or Travis (ugh) in enterprise

Pike is very good. He feels very 'TOS' definitely the stand out.
Spock is decent too.
Laan is decent as well.

Shame. Feels like the male cast are better than the female cast :/

Finally feel they've made a star trek that seems like voyager and before. Finally.
Episode 4 was great.

One thing annoyed me. In e04, unless I missed it, how did a shuttle craft go out and not get seen by the gorn?
I also missed why it went out. As Laan hadn't done the mind meld yet.
