Star Trek : Strange New Worlds

I like the joke about musicals being essentially about emotional regurgitation.

The tone of the episode couldn't have been more different than the previous one.

I'm so conflicted. I'm enjoying the series but I cannot stand musicals whatsoever, so I'm not sure if I'm going to try and watch it or not.

It feels like they're using this series as a test for the tone of the series and the kind of writing we prefer. They seem to have covered most of the cookie-cutter Star Trek themes except a multi-episode Borg style threat. The episodes and character development are only very loosely related to each other otherwise.

It's interesting watching Spock trying to describe his situation through an equation, quite well thought out I thought.

But, the whole Spock has emotions thing though I think has become excessive, and kind of boring. Although, maybe less so to a new Trek audience?

The thing about Spock is he was never really that alien.

Totally agree, it's reasonably easy to fast forward through the actual singing bits, and not lose out too much on whats happening, which is what I did..

Although I did rewind and play, when I saw the Klingons singing, during the "big" number, and that was quite funny/cool

Give it a shot. What's the worst that can happen lol.

Interesting plot device to kick off the singing.

Also
singing and dancing Klingons!

The singing forma the core of the story script though. Revealing the crews thoughts and emotions relating to each other and the previous situations. So you do miss quite a bit skipping them.

I hate musicals with a passion save for 2. The South Park Film, ♫Shut your ******* face Uncle ******♫, and the musical episode of Scrubs which was superb.

I'll watch this episode expecting not to like it, but hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

It's not that hard to guess from the first 5 seconds of song what it's about though. Although i'm sure you're right and I missed out on some character development, only time will tell if the bits I fast forwarded become important in a later episode.

I hope not as I really do find musicals impossibly irritating to watch.

Anson really can do anything.
La'an's song is probably the most impactful I thought. The actress sounds like she has some professional singing experience, which I suppose isn't uncommon in Hollywood.

It sounds like there's quite a bit of autotune used for some of the songs.

Got to be honest, this season has not really hit the spot at all, starting to make Discovery look good.

The title implies out on the fringe of the known galaxy risking all to bring knowledge of new planets and races back to the Federation, dark and dirty to rival The Expanse. Instead we seem to have spent half the time with Anson Jack poncing about in the kitchen wearing an apron, the Spock situation and generally not really going anywhere. The crossover to Lower Decks was moderately amusing in parts but overall just daft.

So, the actresses who play Uhura and La'an both have musical training:

The article refers to the actress who plays Uhura as 'they' so I must be doing it wrong ;)
The say she and her for most of the section about her ok reading again, it seems to be referring to Uhura directly.

However Wikipedia states the following, so either is correct.it also says she is grey-asexual whatever that means?
Gooding goes by she and they pronoun
