I'm not bothered personally if it swings towards COD, BF or neither (was more in reply to kiwi) infact I'm actually a COD fan (well the older ones) and a reluctant BF player. But the game seems to have one foot in each camp without really doing anything unique of its own (in terms of the most basic framework of mechanics if you remove the Starwars flavour) and falling short of enhancing itself to the extent it could with what it takes from each.
I disagree on some of the other factors though - while classes are kind of irrelevant to the game in some ways, games like this only really succeed (and why W:ET was so big) when players can play a role and slot themselves into setup that feels closest to their style and there is certainly a LOT of material in the Starwars universe they can draw from for that.
EDIT: I really don't get the hate for snipers? do people just stand still or try to play an FPS game on the PC with a controller or something? think I might get sniped maybe 2-3 times tops in a match if that on average.
But you ignore my point, it isnt COD, it isnt BF, its battlefront. I'm guessing you've never played the original battlefront games as this is the same style, less players but more cinematic and IMO thats the only way they can get away with what theyve done.
Yeah, i'd love 128 players per side again but with the GFX and explosions that isnt gonna happen, its chaotic enough with 20v20, although id like that to become a minimum of 32v32 if I'm honest.
It shouldn't 'swing' towards either because it ISNT either, battlefront was based upon mass battles in a star wars universe which this fills although player count needs improving.
My main hate for classes comes from people choosing to just camp the entire game with the excuse of oh im a 'sniper'. Unless you put limits on the classes you end up with a team of snipers ala battlefield games, all going for that perfect k:d r.
Watch star wars, see how many snipers you can see. From a star wars game I want star wars, millions of stormtroopers piling in shooting blasters badly and valiant rebels overcoming force with superior skill.
All this class rubbish comes down to the likes of battlelog and scoreboards, accuracy, k:d r, class scores and people e-peen stroking over how good they are rather than enjoying the game for what it is.
Yes, its broken from what I can see and have played.
Yes, it needs massive improvements as shown from this thread.
No, it does not need to be battlefield 5 or have all the features from some other random game in order to be classed as a 'good game'.
Where would PC gaming be today if we just followed Doom because it was good and did nothing else?
