**** Star Wars: Battlefront ****

It doesnt need VOIP, classes, perks, ****ing SNIPERS, C4, leveling up or any of that **** IMO, it needs to be star wars, fun to play and nothing else.

+1

but even if they fix all the bugs and whatnot ultimately the game will fail. because it's not COD or BF and doesn't caress the ego's of the skill-less masses by giving them shiny medals and service levels or by awarding them kill streaks cause they managed to kill 2 people in a row

Probably because yet again, its not a BF game, its battlefront.

Its lacking in a hell of a lot of places, and yeah, I don't think its going to be up to scratch.

Whether they fix the issues after launch or not is yet to be seen, I'll buy it if they are.

But I wish people would stop the 'oh its not a BF game'. Correct, it isnt, it was around years before in pretty much the same iteration.

Just because today people only want one type of shooter, whether it be COD or BF doesn't mean everything should be compared to them.

What if Dice decided to make a racing sim next? Would you all be in here moaning because 'this isnt how BF is supposed to be?!'

I'm not bothered personally if it swings towards COD, BF or neither (was more in reply to kiwi) infact I'm actually a COD fan (well the older ones) and a reluctant BF player. But the game seems to have one foot in each camp without really doing anything unique of its own (in terms of the most basic framework of mechanics if you remove the Starwars flavour) and falling short of enhancing itself to the extent it could with what it takes from each.

I disagree on some of the other factors though - while classes are kind of irrelevant to the game in some ways, games like this only really succeed (and why W:ET was so big) when players can play a role and slot themselves into setup that feels closest to their style and there is certainly a LOT of material in the Starwars universe they can draw from for that.

EDIT: I really don't get the hate for snipers? do people just stand still or try to play an FPS game on the PC with a controller or something? think I might get sniped maybe 2-3 times tops in a match if that on average.

But you ignore my point, it isnt COD, it isnt BF, its battlefront. I'm guessing you've never played the original battlefront games as this is the same style, less players but more cinematic and IMO thats the only way they can get away with what theyve done.

Yeah, i'd love 128 players per side again but with the GFX and explosions that isnt gonna happen, its chaotic enough with 20v20, although id like that to become a minimum of 32v32 if I'm honest.

It shouldn't 'swing' towards either because it ISNT either, battlefront was based upon mass battles in a star wars universe which this fills although player count needs improving.

My main hate for classes comes from people choosing to just camp the entire game with the excuse of oh im a 'sniper'. Unless you put limits on the classes you end up with a team of snipers ala battlefield games, all going for that perfect k:d r.

Watch star wars, see how many snipers you can see. From a star wars game I want star wars, millions of stormtroopers piling in shooting blasters badly and valiant rebels overcoming force with superior skill.

All this class rubbish comes down to the likes of battlelog and scoreboards, accuracy, k:d r, class scores and people e-peen stroking over how good they are rather than enjoying the game for what it is.

Yes, its broken from what I can see and have played.

Yes, it needs massive improvements as shown from this thread.

No, it does not need to be battlefield 5 or have all the features from some other random game in order to be classed as a 'good game'.

Where would PC gaming be today if we just followed Doom because it was good and did nothing else?

Classes existed in games long before any of that stuff - team fortress, enemy territory and before that various mods for quake 2, etc. most games with massive battlefields and/or objective based play that don't embrace some aspects of it tend to very quickly fade away (though there are exceptions).

(I actually detest the implementation in BF4 as its a horrid way to do it but that is another story).

They did, but its never been something people insisted on so much as recently, it feels (to me) like unless a game has medic, engineer, sniper and support it immediately gets discounted as a good game here, and I think its a player conditioning/expectation of a game as an FPS.

Unlocks as far as weapons are concerned are fair enough, but I think the way Red Orchestra does it is perfect, you only get 1-2 sniper per side, 1-3 HMG, 2-3 support and everyone else has to be a bog standard trooper. It encourages team play and more people actually play for the objective!

It also hides the k:d r and I reckon that has had a massive bonus on gameplay, a kill gets you one point but helping to capture the objective gets you 15-25

Its one of the things missing from a lot of games - class/role systems that are implemented in a way that actually encourage people to work together/towards the objective rather than just for show.

Not a great fan of the limits personally as I like to mix it up a bit and do non-standard things like running a sniper rifle without a scope attached like an old school bolt action in close quarter fights - but sniper limits mean I often can't.

The limits work, they stop campers massively and the gameplay benefits from it. In RO2 you can do just that, the snipers rifle is only a bog standard troopers rifle with a scope on it, the recruits rifle is just as accurate but cant zoom, so if you want CQB with bolt action rifles have a look.

Its the same as Metro on BF3, I used to go as support, pick a camping spot and just hold LMB, no tactics, no gameplay just 'leveling up'.

Yet at the end of each round the game shows the top players? This game is a lot more ego oriented than battlefield could ever be.

That's cute, no one has ever heard you :D

Think he an many others could say the same, to many players concerned over Youtube streamers.
Who gives a crap about em, if you enjoy the game get it an play.

If not don't buy it.........................

To many sheep in this thread!

Flame away.

Am I the only one that actually enjoyed the beta?

I did enjoy it, apart from the obviously flaws - such as the massive imbalance in the beginning (though it had started to level out a bit more towards the end)

but I just know (or rather get the feeling) that it will die a death. as I stated before it wont appeal to either the COD of BF masses - as someone has already pointed out it's kind of got one foot in each camp.

it wont hold their mindless gaze for long - particularly the COD squad - no calling in airstrikes or gunships just because you managed to kill a couple of folk without dying.

the BF lot wont enjoy it because they can't snipe/stick c4 on to vehicles/rpg spam etc etc.

and before anyone has a pop at me for generalising the COD and BF community I played plenty of both - and enjoyed them - until they just became spam fests and k:d r e-peen stroking piles of trout puke!

ill just leave this here

i've got a feeling it's going to be really good, especially over the holidays / during peak hype for force awakens

was watching some 4k videos of it being played on monster spec systems and it really does look gorgeous.
