**** Star Wars: Battlefront ****

I'm fine with it being 20 vs 20, in fact I find that even in BF 48 players seems optimal for many of the maps. I'm hopeful that the netcode is 60hz in this version of frostbite.
I'm pretty sure that 20 vs 20 is only for walker assault mode & that other game modes will have smaller numbers involved at least that is what I read.

Theres just no way you can have hit scan weapons in a star wars game. You can physically see the blaster bolts flying towards targets, they travel much much slower then bullets do. Hit scan wouldn't make any sense at all.

I guess I assumed light would travel faster than a bullet for instance. Are the stormtroopers weapons not energy based?

So in that sense consoles will be holding back the PC, because the developers simply won't get the return on an engine like that from console games, which is where most of the money is. But thats no reason why the PC game has to run 40 players. BF3 on PC was 64 player while BF3 on 360 / PS3 was 24 player for example.

Couldn't it also be due to the complexity of the environment and models? We had games 10 years ago that were capable of managing much more than 40 players. If lvlcaps report is anything to go by this game is going to be the next evolution in visual fidelity :D

Your mistake is assuming that a fictional universe is based on real science :p

No problems with the whole Jedi telepathy/telekinesis/immortality? No problems with faster than light travel? No problems with light sabers?

I know as much about the starwars universe as the next person :p To ask the question in another way, why would the standard guns not be hit scan? Surely there is no drop over distance? I'm also assuming that the velocity is constant?

Is it confirmed that the article was talking about the pc version? Could be limitations of the console version.

The console version of BF4 had less complex models and environments than the PC for that reason.

There's no reason for the PC version to be 40 players unless that's what DICE wants.

You're assuming they would choose hit scan because its easier (ie no need to model bullet drop etc..). However the setup of the frostbite engine could mean that hitscan is harder to implement. All of the bullet physics will already be coded into the engine, and changing this could mean code changes to the engine which would be more work. So we'll just have to wait and see.

If you watch the films the blaster bolts the guns shoot travel incredibly slow compared to a bullet. So much so that you could basically sidestep one at range (or, you know, deflect one with a lightsaber like its a baseball)

In every star wars game I've played you have to lead your target by a massive amount to hit with the guns.

Got it. Will be interesting to see how they implement it.

So no gameplay footage was leaked from the convention floor? Im still not convinced the game will look anywhere near as nice as the footage seen so far.

I care less and less for online play these days so I hope the supposed bots mode is as robust as the instant action mode in BFII

According to lvlcap the trailer was taken with in game footage using cinematic tools - so the disclaimer was actually a little misleading. Knowing DICE I'm expecting the graphics to be next level.

I'm more interested in the gameplay and performance to be honest. Hopefully we will get a chance to play a beta in the coming months.

In engine, it's not running in real time. Just look at the models, everything is perfectly smooth, way too many polygons to run in real time.

I swear I saw leaked footage last night, or was it a dream. Either way it looked nothing like the "in engine" from a few days ago. Still waiting to see the next Uncharted look nothing like the first trailer. Why do they insisting on misleading so much!?
