**** Star Wars: Battlefront ****

All sizzle and no sausage.

I loled. Shame they didn't listen to feedback from the alpha but I guess they have learned from the BF4 launch. Making big changes this close to launch will be a big no-no. They will be focusing on fixing bugs, spends bucket loads on advertising and launching with the most stable product possible to keep shareholders happy. Loads of people will buy it because of the hype but I agree with Nex that I don't see many players on PC staying around after 3-4 months.

Friends:
The game seems to be designed to prevent more than 2 friends playing on the same team. You can join as a party, but half of your team will end up in a queue, and then you'll only be on the same team as your "partner".

Fun:
Crucially for me, the game seems to be missing the magic spark of excitement which I got from playing the betas of Crysis, BFBC2, BF3 and BF4. Even BFHL managed to make me laugh. This feels soulless in comparison.

Graphics:
The graphics are amazing, but the game play balance seems off to me at this stage.

Level design and balance:
The level design and spawn points is baffling as well.

In the drop zone, the imperial vs rebel weapon balance seems Ok, but on Hoth, the rebel weapons seem to dominate (It's like assault rifles vs PWDs).

Plenty of times I spawned with my back to 4 or more enemies who were already firing in my direction before I spawned.

What's the point of having a whole load of gullies to fight through if jet bunny hopper man can just bounce all over the place. Or corridors to defend if hero boy can just waltz up them and annihilate everyone.

Then there's the trenches which offer no protection at all, if anything they make it hard to see the approaching enemy.

Overall it's an unbalanced casual arcade game at the moment.

actually enjoyed playing it last night!

graphics are really great - most realistic lighting i have seen in a game

the general game play is fun - hopefully it will be better with the bigger haul of stuff do play / do

once i stopped ADS and went 3rd person (thanks jackfrags!) it was much easier to get kills

only thing i didnt like was the randomness of the pickups for vehicle/heros
one match kept finding them everywhere - next match didnt see a single one
frustrating when you fancy a spin in a tie but cant find one - i like the way it works in BF better on this - maybe the other modes (supremacy? / conquest) will be better for this?

Had another couple of hours on this last night. Not for me. I'm sure they will fix things like the spawn camping, but that got old real quick. It just all felt so shallow.

Oh, and RIP ADS, hip fire or bust. :p

ADS works, but only for mid-long range, other then that hip fire is the only way.

Very excited for this game. But I fear it's because of the name more than anything. Hearing a lot that it's not an amazing shooter.

Definitely going to wait for some reviews after launch.

Wooo back from suspension

Dropzone is quite fun for a short blast and is reasonably fast paced action, especially once people had unlocked jump packs etc. Little bit too much nade spammage tho.

Walker Assault really is terrible and I guess whoever designed rush for BF4 probably worked on this too. The worst thing is the spawns and flight mechanics for me.

So much like the Alpha, sounds and looks amazing...still bad tho

I have now played two multiplayer games and for me I am not liking it.

Looks very good and the sounds, oh the sounds are fantastic and it's just star wars.

Then it comes to the online gameplay and my first impressions are that it is a let down. There's just something about it that makes it feel lacking, makes it feel like a basic point and click shooter. As always a lot of people pay next to no attention to the objectives and it becomes a massive cluster getting in and out of spawn areas.

I'll give it a few more matches and see if my opinion changes.

Wasn't too impressed with the gameplay...interface was nice though and very slick. Game ran well on my ageing heap at medium settings. Def not a must have for me.

the gameplay sucks, graphics nice

/done. worth £5-10

Spawning into deaths is also very common. And a common staple of dice games it sometimes seems like you can hammer an enemy with multiple hits, yet they hit you once and you die.

Too me it just doest't feel like a polished game, the weapons all feel the same and there's barely any of them to begin with. The movement of the characters reminds me more of quake wars than a battlefield game. Stamina doesn't factor into anything and its just people running and bouncing along most of the time.

Also not impressed by it at all. Seems like COD and Battlefield had a baby and instead of a beautiful child, it turned out to be a tumour. The gunplay is diabolically bad!

Pros
- Nice movement
- Graphics on ultra are pretty sweet for the most part
- Excellent authentic sound

Cons
- drop pod mode is basically COD team deathmatch
- you're FORCED (no pun intended) into power ups and perks or you're a free kill
- abysmal level design
- boring after 30 minutes playtime
- arcade focused and feels like battlefield hardline....

A lot of good points here, pretty much how I fee for the most part. Just lacking and too simple compared to other FPS. And I don't like hearing how bad the balance is on the Hoth level, I haven't even played it yet.

I thought that in the beginning too. I almost shut it off, but gave it a little time and I really enjoy playing it now. Maybe give it another go

Yeah, I'll give it 1 more go. I've yet to do the Hoth level. After that though, I'll likely uninstall it anyway. Worst thing is that this makes me want to play Planetside 2, a much better multiplayer FPS. That game is surprisingly balanced, Snipers aren't as OP as games like Battlefield/COD and it requires skill to play. You don't even have to shoot to do well and earn points, being a team player and doing other stuff like repairing as an Engi or healing as a Medic is well appreciated. Keyboard and mouse req makes it painful for me to play without a desk though.

I played a bit longer last night with a friend on co-op survival and then uninstalled.

I had big hopes for this game but I don't think it will be worth the purchase after all.

I think i will reserve any judgement on this until we get details of the other maps / modes..

Cant make judgement just based on one Hoth Map.. Must admit does seem a bit one sided and the whole power up idea is a bit to random.. Id rather they had just done the flight light battlefield rather than random pickups.

More excited for the space battles and endor levels if I am honest.. I think endor is going to really show us how Graphically intensive this game is..

Tried this last night, quite enjoyed it for about 20 minutes, then found it boring.

Graphics are very nice at ultra, smooth gameplay. Good sound. Level design is 'meh'. Hoth level is unbalanced with the empire pretty much always winning. The gunplay isn't to bad, but the weapons all feel very similar to me. The biggest let down though is how shallow if felt after such a short amount of time. I was hoping for proper squads and distinct classes, similar to BF4. But its a struggle to even get on the same team as your friends. It ends up feeling like team death match with domination spawns and random players. Its not a proper team game at all, more like a bouncy castle for 6 year old's.

Darth vader and Luke are just lol. Watching them bounce across the map like loony tunes is both highly amusing and depressing at the same time.

Yeah its pretty much a scattering match when your team see those 2 leaping about like they have jet packs shoved up their asses. Yeah "force jump" we know but it looks utterly ridiculous.
