****Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker - Official Thread****

The mounted charge on the outer surface of the spaceship makes my head hurt - how can someone not understand it is an idea that might sound great on paper but totally doesn't work or fit in this context on screen... how... I can only assume the studio owner's kid wrote it or something and everyone is too afraid to call it for what it is... garbage..

this, after Leia floats serenely through space after her spaceship gets ******* by a missile, right?

Ah, you mock now but when TROS highlights how Leia was actually a secret Jedi Master after being trained by Luke on Endor (even if she did drop her blast-shielded hat during one of her training runs) you'll realise that Rian Johnson was a visionary who showed you something extraordinary knowing that JJ would complete his canvas in the finale. Such genius, such mastery of the script!

OMG, that actually hurt to type. Mainly because I was grimacing so heard I bit the tongue that was so firmly in my cheek. Personally, I refuse to go the cinema to watch this film in the belief that doing so will just vindicate Disney's deplorable attitude towards Star Wars as a brand and the fans in general.

For all of JJ's critisms he does make some visually stunning shots - the sunset tie-fighters over Jakku, the X-wings screaming across the water, the Ep9 trailer shot of Kylo appearing through the water etc. Shame about the rest but hopeful for some new desktop backgrounds :D

he is a good director; he's just a terrible writer.

And somehow gets into the ship via a door opening that somehow doesn't suck everyone else out. I've seen some dumb **** in movies, but that has to be in the top 5 dumbest scenes ever. Even at the storyboard stage that must have been a laughing point among most of the cast due to how stupid it seemed.

She is was a strong woman. It was an invisible shield of pure feminist enlightenment that kept the cold vacuum at bay.

Except the door part isn’t the silly part given they have open hanger decks and energy shields which objects can pass through yet keep the people on the deck safe.

It’s not just Star Wars that does that for example Star Trek they do exactly the same thing and can project an energy shield seemingly anywhere internally in the ship at a moments notice.

The stupid bit was her flying through space using force powers never exhibited in anyway and only touched upon briefly by virtue she is Luke’s sister.

well yeah, you'd have big energy shields over hangar entrances; not sure i'd believe you'd have them over every personnel access door on a ship though.

says it all, being Trek.
sensible logic would surely dictate that. if ships etc are going out of a specifically-designed part of the ship to launch/land, you need a shield. If it's a door, you have a sign saying "do not open in space". big money/energy savings.

Having deployable shields in Trek acts as bulkheads as well as being good for security.

So the reason it’s silly in Star Wars is?

They did the exactly the same thing in EP1, they dropped a random force field in the middle of a droid ship to capture Qui Gon and Obi One.

Don’t get me wrong the scene is silly but that particular point shouldn’t really be triggering you.

It has already sold twice as many tickets as end game well 45% more

Last night, Atom reported that Rise of Skywalker set a first hour record for the retailer, selling 45% more tickets than Avengers: Endgame in its first hour.

As it stands, Atom Tickets’ top five movies with the best ‘first day’ of pre-sales are as follows:

  1. Avengers: Endgame
  2. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
  3. Aquaman
  4. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  5. Avengers: Infinity War

I that 45% is for the first hour, sales are looking good but I dont think this will challenge endgame

There is a double door. It’s very obvious she goes through one door and through another, effectively an airlock.

I mean yeh it’s pretty stupid but not as dumb as you make out.

From what i remember you don't even see her go through the door, just a puff of smoke and she's getting wheeled out.
