Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (fallen order sequel)

Interesting just checked and indeed have to toggle it for it to actually enable and the fps drops to the... 40s :/

Can anyone spot the differences RT is making here, or is it like Res Evil 4 and only applies to water/glass lol

Hey if I wanted to game on a controller I'd be a console gamer :p
Actually from further testing toggling raytracing off then on is what's bugged resulting in unusually low performance. The YouTuber I watched was wrong, the performance you were seeing was correct.

To fix it enable raytracing and restart the game and then you should get your old framerate back.

Setting working OK and verified. RT works, FSR works, HDR works, no issues with audio or voice overs in cut scenes at all and performance is perfectly fine. I don't have FPS numbers but the Freesync range on my 4K monitor is 48 - 144hz and not once has it dropped below that.

So you obvioulsy have a different book than me because I have not one issue to report.

I use an Xbox controller for this and every other 3rd person game.

If I do encounter issues I will happily report them here, bit for now after about 4 hours of gameplay at 4K epic settings I have no issues to report.
Disabling and then enabling raytracing is what's bugged and results in abnormally low performance (I have now tested it). The YouTuber I watched was wrong to say you need to do this to get raytracing to work.

Restarting the game fixes it.

HDR is not working properly on XBOX in that the peak brightness is lower than it should be (I haven't seen it tested on PC but I suspect it will be similar). On PS5 it's totally broken.

The CPU bottleneck isn't quite as bad as I thought (which was based on toggling raytracing), but I still drop into the 30s and 40s FPS on my 3900X with an RTX 3080 FE. GPU utilisation is 70-100% but I can't expect miracles with this older CPU I suppose.

out off interest i tried setting everything to low compared to ultra, i get exactly the same frame rate at low as i do at ultra on my 4090

I also get the same frame rate whether its 1080p or 4k and anywhere in between.

HDR works and looks great for me. Uploaded a video in HDR to youtube but it will probably take ages to be available in hdr.

The game has some weird bugs, one of which steals a lot of performance.

Wanna know what it is? The game needs to be restarted after you change any graphics settings, trust me.
After you restart the game when you changed a setting, it will recompile and this has a massive impact on GPU usage.

For example, I can enable the Ultra preset, then restart the game and put up RTSS and see I'm getting 90fps with 100% GPU usage at 4k. Then I go into the menu turn ray tracing off and jump out the menu and now I'm getting 65fps with 70% GPU usage, then I enable ray tracing again and I'm still getting 65fps with 70% usage. Then i restart the game and it's back to 90fps with 100% usage. This issue also happens when testing the FSR settings or even just messing with HDR toggles. The game should recompile everytime you change a graphics setting but it doesn't happen, it will only recompile on a restart.

So yeah, you have to restart the game after everytime you change any graphics settings otherwise you will lose as much as 50% performance
I saw people saying the get low GPU usage with a RTX4090, but once I figured out how this bug works - I get 90% to 100% usage on my RTX4090 at 4k with a 7950x CPU.
Aye, I noticed this too. It makes it very difficult to change settings on the fly. I went from 50-70 fps with No RT, enabled RT in game and the FPS fell to around 40. I restarted the game with the now enabled RT and I'm now around 60 fps. So there is definitely some shenanigans going on.

Exactly the same here. Highest I've seen it go is 65fps but 'tis very often in the 50's for me (7900X3D and 4090). Very stuttery, especially in combat. Tried restarting game after changing settings and no difference whatsoever, no matter the settings/resolution. I'll wait for a patch, no way I'm suffering through this.

Here is a quick video.
It is HDR but it takes a while for youtube to enable that.
Had to drop display refresh rate to 60 otherwise geforce experience would record it at 42fps.

does look good. though you've got 32gb of ram a 7800x3d and 4090 so you'd f'ing hope so lol.

The best way to play is just disabling RT, it runs in the 70's and is not choppy at all other than the occasional micro stutter. Cant say the RT is stunning on it or anything anyway.

I run into a CPU bottleneck whether RT is on or off so I'll just leave it on  . If there is a difference in graphics it's quite subtle.

The RT is at the usual level, in that it can be noticed when on. Better AO, shadows and some additional reflections etc, my 4080 at 4K and FSR on quality has not hit any stutters in combat etc. HDR is definately working for me on my Viewsonic XG320U (600 HDR).

At planet Koboh now and the performance is perfectly fine. I am enjoying this but am going to put it down so I can finish HFW Burning Shore DLC first.

Are you using FSR and do you have an adaptive sync monitor? I am able to play it perfectly fine at max settings on a 4080.

Yes, FSR Quality at 4K, but I only have a 3900X which is a slow CPU these days for gaming. My GPU is a 3080 FE. Most of the time I am at 40-50 FPS in the opening area with 70-100% GPU utilisation.

I have an LG C1 48" OLED which is GSync Compatible.

I don't want to start a meme, but is it a VRAM issue maybe? :D

Possibly in some cases, but reducing FSR to Balanced or Performance also reduces VRAM significantly to about 7.5-8GB and I still get mostly 45-50 FPS (it might smooth out some of the drops into the 30s though). The problem is FSR below Quality looks pretty awful.

However, I fully expect to have VRAM issues once I reach the open world and the larger planets.

I restarted after I changed it but it made no difference.
Not sure what's going on there then, although if you are monitoring GPU usage while you are CPU bottlenecked that should change based on whether raytracing is on or not (that's how I knew raytracing was on after restarting as it was significantly higher than with raytracing off).

I am waiting for the Digital Foundry video to explain what's going on, Alex has his work cut out.
