Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

Trailers then were only ever seen at the cinema when you were already sitting down with bum on seat and popcorn in hand. In some ways I miss seeing a trailer for the first time on the big screen rather than on my phone or iPad.

For me, this has been a grower. After watching the trailer again a few times and thinking about this more, you can colour me excited. It's especially interesting that Mark Hamill has said he disagrees with the way the character has gone (pinch of salt required maybe), and I can't wait to get at least some answers to questions the first (well, 7th...) film left open. I get the feeling they're going to echo/mirror the twist of TESB, and trying to guess that is fun, as well as trying to work out Kylo Ren's motives. If he's just a bad guy I will be quite thoroughly miffed :o

I am worried after watching various YouTube clips of Mark Hamill talking about this/his character etc.

If they have Luke Skywalker turning to the dark side I will walk out the cinema. It would be a betrayal of star wars canon to be honest. Would make a mockery of ep 4, 5 and 6.

How many times do we need to show THAT yt clip? Maybe the director needs to see it again...

Saw the trailer (late to the party).....massively underwhelmed.

ZERO money shots as far as I am concerned.

At least the 1st TFA trailer had the erection inducing Millenium Falcon scene, and Kylo Ren firing up his light sabre.

This has nothing.

You can't win

Giveaway little in the trailer it's underwhelming, show a few things and it's spoiled it

I'd rather not know much and just see everything when it's released

Did you see the same trailer?

  • Ties being blasted by the Falcon
  • epic clip of a space battle
  • AT-ATs in background of one scene.
  • Rey being trained by Luke on a cliff edge

Just to name a few.

exactly. it's not like any of us are deciding to watch the next star wars movie based on an advert. the adverts will not make us go to the cinema, so why even bother. adverts do nothing but spoil the story. even when i try and avoid an advert by not looking or listening say when at the cinema watching something else, you can't avoid hearing han say "chewie we are home" and that scene is spoiled. imagine watching that scene for the first time with no idea they are in the movie, but instead it's spoilt on a trailer that is designed to do nothing but sell tickets. forget these trailers giving anything away. they could have just the star wars logo and a date for 15 seconds for all i care in the trailer.

anyone who is on edge about seeing these films shouldn't have a trailer designed for them any way. star wars is in a unique position in that it almost definetly will sell tickets at record levels, so they don't need to do much to hype up the movies. those that do need hyping perhaps should consider why they are so bothered by the teaser trailer.

..

Eh? Canon?
I thought Luke went and studied the Dark side with the resurrected emperor in the original Lucas followup canon, which thankfully has been mostly thrown in the bin.

Perfect behind the scenes, loved it better than a trailer. Everyone seems to have matured, Rey especially.

I do hope they go in new directions.
Very sad to see Carrie for the last time on screen.

Was feeling very un-hyped for this but I have hopes now.

Yep, pretty much. Trailers were almost an after thought back then and the art of a good trailer only really started in the 90s

Nope, plenty of movies from the 70's and 80's had good trailers. All trailers these days do is let you basically see key moments from parts of the movie and you can pretty much piece it together yourself. Especially seeing as theres usually 3-4 trailers per movie not including announcement trailers and international versions.
