Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

Looks terrible...

Does it?... I don't think so, personally.... but I'm not a bored, jaded, internet/forum cynic, that has to dump on anything and everything. I still manage to be entertained, by (er...) entertainment/escapism/fantasy/fun. Some people overthink think this stuff {yes, its fluff}.... but

I can't blooming wait....

Yes he is supposed to bring balance by destroying the Sith. I've badly worded my point above but when you read around in the past the force was split into light/dark and there was nothing wrong with this. Call it ying/yang perhaps as a good comparison.

He IS supposed to destroy the Sith as they are over balancing in favor of the dark side. Hence why I find the (rumored) assignation of the "end of the Jedi" comment on the trailer to Luke as the (new, by new post old republic) Jedi are equally as bad as the Sith in unbalancing the force.

First wake up post was bad, hope the above clarifies my point.

It's still not right :)

Have you watched the clone wars episode that actually explains how Anakin was supposed to bring balance to the force? It is not about destoying the Sith, the Jedi missinterpreted the prophesy, watch Overlords, Altar of Mortis, Ghosts of Mortis. It's shown that the Light side and the Dark side are equally important part of the Force.

Kenobi has no knowledge of what went on at Mortis when he screams that Anakin was supposed to destroy the Sith and neither does Anakin because they wipe his memory when he turns down the chance to bring balance to the force as is intended.

TFA was **** and almost blasphemous.. and R1 was meh! this is the Last Hope for the Jedi for me....

If they dont do Mark Hamill/Luke Skywalker justice in this film then its the last Jedi film i will ever watch...

I find it mind boggling that still STILL the first 3 havent been surpassed.

Still waiting on THE Jedi MASTER Luke's bad-ass moment...at least one ffs give us 1 !

Well, if you're throwing in the EE, CG series and have played KoTOR, the cycle is rather banal: there's the force; there are two fundamental interpretations of what it is and how to use it; they clash; one side batters the other; then the other fights back; but wait - there's a third way; at least one grey force user goes rogue and thinks balance means KILL; but wait - there's yet another grey user that discovers Taoism - WU WEI - and pacifies the rogue; ...something stirs in the force. And so on and on and on. Sometimes there are aliens. It's a perfect formula for infinite releases and merch. Kids love it.

I dunno what EE and CG mean but Clone Wars is Canon, Kotor as far as I'm aware isn't.

I mangled it: EE -> EU -> Expanded Universe. CG-> Computer Graphics -> Animated Series. Both canon and non canon material feeds from the same pool. Lucas was always very open about his inspiration and intentions in terms of a cyclical saga, too. What Disney drops is down to its bottom line, of course. But colour me surprised if the formula changes to any great extent!

The old Expanded universe stuff is no longer canon and has been renamed to Legends

All we have as canon now is: (list pinched from Wookiepedia)

Meh, ret-conning bs to explain **** writing.

I disagree on his Star Trek not being quite as bad. He took something that's about discovery and exploration and somehow turned into lens flare meets Star Wars in a flying Apple store. At the time I thought he would be the perfect choice to direct any new Star Wars film. I can only assume that when Abrams got the call to make the new Trek film, misheard what was said and thought he was being hired to direct a new Star Wars film. Little did I know, he would get that gig as well, and would screw that up too...

I wasn't overly impressed with that teaser, but the lack Abrams being involved does give me some hope that this will be an improvement on TFA.

I quite liked the first 2 of his Trek trilogy... especially Cumberbatch as Khan.

His time travelling Spock in the first one was very repetative as far as his story-telling goes, however. He's a bit EA games Battlefield series in putting out the same thing with a different skin.

TFA was a complete and utter waste of time.

Some weird reunion of the actors thing with next to no actual plot behind it. I would have preferred if they did that off camera and concentrated on making an actual film while in front of the camera.

Rogue One was pretty good, IMO.

Have you even seen the original trilogy? Luke is a whiney a-hole with a crush on his sister.

Exactly, for a lot of people the original trilogy will never be surpassed because they probably first saw them when they were kids so have the nostalgia and look back at it as being amazing. Anything new will never live up to that for these people. Adults can never find something like a movie as amazing as a kid did back in the day.

He did have one reasonably bad assed moment when he hit that thing up the exhaust funnel ;)

I really struggle to think of any bad-ass actual moments in both TFA and R1. Rogue One has a much better plot and better coherence but not a lot of bad-assery really? Except for Vader at the end maybe.

I can count lets see at least 5 bad ass moments Luke had in the original trilogy...lets go back in time...

1. Death star run use the force bla
2. Vader fight in Empire (even tho he got his ass handed to him as Vader didnt fight at his fullest still a couple of moments in it Luke did good)
3. Annihilation of Jabba and his crew from a position of what normal people would call hopeless
4. Rancor beat down
5. Vader beat-down (and Luke was holding back a lot of the time as well...role reversal from Empire)

Most of Return of the Jedi Luke is in pure bad-ass mode tbh.

There is speculation though that Luke is neither a light or dark side jedi...that he is the first Jedi to successfully use both sides or perhaps he will teach Rey to use both but both in balance. ie the one who will bring balance to the force etc etc etc
