TROOP NUMBERS DOUBLED

The US military plans to double its troop strength in Iraq to about 200,000 in the next month, officials have said._

There are currently about 125,000 Coalition soldiers and Marines fighting in the conflict in Iraq, with 25,000 of them from Britain.
US officials said that plans would see up to 100,000 more US soldiers and marines brought over to Iraq by the end of April, bringing the total fighting force to around 225,000.

The 4ID is being deployed now and will be operational within a week. Other units to be sent include 1st Armoured, which was in the original plan to invade Iraq. However transport diffculties scuppered that. 1AD is based in Germany.

Other units linked to be transferred to the war are 2nd Armoured Cavalry and 3rd ACD both based in the US

hopefully this means they realise that the war could last months unless action is taken. Anyone still confident of a quickish victory?

24 MEU scheduled to return back to the US after its tour of the med is to be deployed to the Persian Gulf. And hence the Iraq War

An MEU comprises approx 2200 personnel, split between 1200 troops and 800 air crew and service support group.

Not really.

I've always said that Baghdad would be a hard fight.

There is no such thing as an easy war.

Lots of people were under the impression this would be a few days thing, but i dont think its realistic to invade a whole country in such a short time (excepts France

"He's either never been to Southampton, or he's never been to Umm Qasr" says a British Squaddie patrolling Umm Qasr. Another soldier added: "There's no beer, no prostitutes and people are shooting at us. It's more like Portsmouth."
