Radio 5 (theres a us press conf on just now). Not an entirely unofficial rumour from how it sounded. Also found were boxes of documentation on how to wage chemical warfare plus (supposedly) vials of antidotes.
 
Just read it on the teletext, saying they found 1000's of boxes, each containing 3 vials of white powder+1 vial antidote.

Also found were notes on how to wage chemical warfare.

CHEMICAL WARFARE ITEMS FOUND
US troops in Iraq have found thousands of boxes of white powder, nerve agent antidote and documents on how to wage chemical warfare, an official has said.

Col John Peabody of the 3rd Infantry Division said the materials were found at the Latifiyah industrial complex just south of Baghdad.

UN inspectors visited the suspected chemical, biological and nuclear weapons site as recently as February.

It's very possible that the powder is an absorbant used to decontaminate an area. Fullers Earth is one possiblity as is flour.
 
US COMMANDER RELIEVED OF DUTY

Sky News
A US commander who was leading a push by marines through southern Iraq towards Baghdad has been relieved of his post.
No reason has been given for the decision to relieve Colonel Joe Dowdy, commander of the Marines First Regimental Combat Team, Public Affairs Officer Steven Schweitzer said.

"He was responsible for the regiment until three hours ago," Schweitzer said.

Who the **** is going to tell me now that the US is being to aggressive! that is 7 soldiers killed from suicide bombers! 7!

DO US soldiers not have the right to defend themselves. I bet if the soldiers opened fire on the car that they would have ben seen as murderer! **** off are they!:mad:

I just saw footage of UK forces detaining two men. guess how they were detaining them! They were slapping them on the head and forcing their heads down with both hands! Some ******* professionals!:mad:

Speculation on what Iraq is planning? Chemical or Biological attacks pherhaps? But if so they have just given our forces a nice big warning!
 
Wait... since it is such a public annoucement, pherhaps its some kind of call for terrorist attacks? hence unconventinal.
 
Chemical will be useless with advance warning, Bio will possibly kill a large proportion of Baghdad.

Iraq isn't meant to have nukes, dont know if they could create a dirty bomb.

My guess psych warfare - suicide bombs.
 
The 'experts' on SKY News are agreeing its likely to be suicide bombers also.

With the number of Infantry at the airport being quite small and in the capital Iraq would no doubt want to put all its eggs in one basket to try and do as much damage as possible to the forces there.
 
The Iraqi Minsiter has made reference to indochina - He may be referring to the guerilla tactics used in Vietnam. So probably not CB warfare but more of what has allready occurred at Nasiriyah. Fedayeen. "Martyrdom Operations"
 
I reckon its just spin to slow the US up some more. We are going to see die hard Saddam loyalists fighting in / around Baghdad anyway.

I am very interested to here what is in the vials, I'm not hoping its chem stuff because then there will be more elsewhere in Saddams control, but at least the war would be properly justified.

If the war IS about oil I'd expect to see some reason for going into Saudi come up very soon as well!

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency is conducting its own tests at the same area, but has not yet released the results, according to officials in northern Iraq.

In a Feb. 5 speech to the U.N. Security Council, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell showed a satellite photo of the Sargat camp and described Ansar al-Islam as “teaching its operatives how to produce ricin and other poisons.”
