State Funded Slimming Classes

More likely to get laid.

and you can see your own penis without a mirror ;)

If I can lose weight and get fit through exercise anyone can.
I have a lot of mental issues I could easily try to use as an excuse with medical reports to back them up instead I decided I wanted to change. (Agoraphobia , social anxiety disorder etc all brought on by a mental disability I have)
if people don't want to change you can't force them via a fat fighters course

but would I have been a yoyo dieter like most people end up without the exercise ?
most people don't see a diet as a long term change it's just short term until they lose the weight and then they go back to their old ways
?

Hence my point about education - I don't like diets that don't educate the individual about *why* they are losing weight, a permanent solution is awareness of nutrition.

Equally saying exercise is the key, is a form of mis-information, because most people are not going to cycle for 3 hours a day for the rest of their lives. If that is the message as soon as they stop exercising (in the winter maybe) they will put the fat back on.

My advice to anyone is to understand what food is made up of, find foods you enjoy that make up your daily requirements and calorie count until you are aware enough of portion control to do it without thinking.

Exercise is also important of course, not so much for creating a calorie deficit but for the hormonal changes it brings to your body - sitting all day isn't good. You don't need to exercise vigorously for hours a day though, walking for 30 minutes is fine.

If the whole population parked a little further from work, or walked to the shop for a paper instead of driving - and were aware of what they were eating and why - then obesity would be confined to just those with real physical or psychological issues.

By my calculations I could balloon out to a 52" waist and several inches of my todger would still be visible... :o

yea I agree education is key people need to read the labels and make an informed buying decision.

my exercise may come across as extreme (people on here cycle 3-4 x as much as me each week) but you don't need to go that far
even walking just a few miles a day has huge health benefits, btw I didn't put any weight on over the winter apart from about half a stone when I gorged cakes etc at Christmas and I didn't get out on my bike over the poor weather periods at all

I think once you get used to feeling hungry your mind adjusts. there was a point when I would never feel empty or full which played a large part in my over eating.

I'm convinced my stomach has shrunk by a large percentage

Dust. Anybody? No? High in fat, low in fat? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. Anybody? No? Dust. It's actually very low in fat. You can have as much dust as you like

And by recognising the symptoms you can treat the underlying conditions, which are both physical and psychological...as I said.

But there may be no "underlying conditions". Tiredness, for example, can be a symptom of several medical conditions including diabetes. But I wouldn't count "stayed up too late and didn't get enough sleep" as a medical condition, so we'd rule that one out first before assuming something worse.

Perhaps we're simply disagreeing on terminology? I wouldn't count a lack of willpower as a medical condition, or a lack of education about how to live a healthy lifestyle, so I don't hold that you can "treat" those "conditions". I agree that medical advice would be useful for people in those situations; but let's save money to treat people whose weight and fitness might be a little out of their control, rather than those who just can't be bothered to educate or engage themselves.

tiredness, for example can also be the symptom of an extremely poor diet.
eat crap and you will feel like crap.
a lot of people seem to look for medical excuses rather than admit their mindset is the problem

A quick look on slimming world "eat as much as you want" "no calorie counting" "free foods". Thanks but no thanks.

Yeah not even sure how the 'unlimited' foods on Slimming World are supposed to work, I know things like Pasta etc on Slimming World are unlimited and with a normal hungry/full response I'm sure that works fine since pasta is really filling, for someone who gorges themselves on massive amounts of food then having anything as 'unlimited' is just a bad idea.
