State Funded Slimming Classes

It's a shame it's used so much, as a short-cut to the complex reality of motivation theory & the host of issues related to problems related to it motivation, ironic that the term 'lazy' is used by people who are too lazy (lack the motivation) to find out it's a void term.

I find "lazy" to be a pretty good word for the situation where a person knows what they should be doing; knows that the action they should be doing has many advantages and few or no disadvantages; and has no logical reason not to engage in the new behaviour... but simply doesn't.

I certainly attribute the length of time it took me to actually start getting fit and healthy to laziness. I don't think wrapping that description in any formal psychological terminology would change it.

Um...hi.

I pointed out in a prev thread that I was previously over-weight because I was nothing more than lazy!

#exceptiontotherule
?
That self defeating attitude is a clear sign of depression, pre-existing condition.

I make the rules here. :p

But yes you are indeed correct, obviously you get exceptions for everything - it's why I used the word 'tend' as opposed to 'always'!.

We are not logical creatures, you can't explain away behaviour based on logic.

Knowing you should do something doesn't mean that it translates to impacting on behaviour, this is why people commit crimes when they really should know they would get caught, have unprotected sex without really appreciating the result of it.

Knowing something doesn't always relate to changing the behaviour, for that it requires certain skills which develop during childhood (the ability to make meaningful long term choices over short term indulgence or gain).

It does make a difference if you intend to enact policy to resolve a huge social problem. Knowing the underline causes of behaviour tends be use a useful tool for changing it.

Tax dollars spent on making chubbers doinkable are tax dollars well spent!
:D hahaha.

That's a campaign we can all get behind.

haha my GF follows this on tumblr, the general jist I got of it was, its a bunch of fat women moaning about being fat but also moaning about how its unfair whilst not doing anything about it.

Basically a bunch of idiots.... who are fat.

"fatphobia and fat discrimination" HAHHAHAHAHAHAHA amazing.

I'm proud that I eat and drink what I like and don't really care what anyone thinks, I've taken the traditional noble English land owners view on weight and exercise, running a marathon and digging my fields is for my serfs.

Most fatties are fat, because they eat to much and lack of exercise, no ifs, no buts.
Yes, but they eat too much & lack the motivation to exercise for a huge number of reasons.

Does your mind stop at the first stage of any given social issue, have you considered bridging beyond that first baby-step & putting another foot forward into the big wide world of reality?.

Thank you for that useful & insightful contribution.
If that's sarcasm I'd advise you to pull the wooden implement out of your back passage.

It's another government scheme which won't work - to imply the reason people are fat is because they're too poor to afford a slimming class is just absurd.
You don't need to be a genius to work that one out, it's a stupid idea from the outset and whoever conceived it is clearly a moron.

What do you propose they do then, nothing?

If this even helps out a handful of people it's not cost a lot and may improve their quality of life then surely that's a good thing?

Ah the usual GD ******** which surfaces every time there is a thread which is weight related I see ...

Give GD a group of people they can laugh at and bitch about without repercussions and the thread goes the same way as all other on this subject ....

Yes it is sarcasm.

I doubt you have any information on will or will not work on this matter, a rational thing to propose if you didn't think it would work would be for them to focus on ensuring the scheme is supported by evidence.

Not going off on some emotional rant.
